Summary Description: Reporting directly to the Plant Manager, the Press Department Manager will manage multiple manufacturing areas to include Press, Printing, Pre-Flight, Mounting, Plate Check and Graphics. The position is accountable for safety, quality, on-time delivery, productivity, material handling, cost performance, employee training and relations in a high-performance work team environment, capital improvements and budget preparation, and overall Global Performance System (GPS) expansion as it relates to all printing operations. This job demands monitoring production performance and implementing processes, procedures, and methods to improve results in all key functional areas. The position is responsible for implementing and maintaining best manufacturing practices and regulatory compliance for all production activities.
What you'll be doing:
• Ensure the safety of all employees; work directly with the Safety pillar to lead a comprehensive safety program to prevent injuries. Comply with all federal, state, and local environmental and safety regulations (EPA, OSHA, etc.). • Directly manage the Elk Grove Press Department, investigate and rectify press downtime/efficiency issues. • Coordinate production scheduling to meet customer demands, to manage overtime, to minimize inventory, and to reduce costs. • Responsible for developing, motivating, supporting and guiding at least 40 hourly employees across multiple manufacturing areas through education, training, and teamwork. • Communicate problems and obstacles to the Plant Manager and the leadership team. Establish workflow policies that enhance speed and efficiency without compromising product safety or quality. • Create schedules for employees to ensure optimum staffing levels within the Press Department. Directly support press approvals as required. • Hire, train, direct and mentor operations staff and all plant employees with diverse language, cultural and educational background. • Collaborate with CSD pillar to expand training/education framework for the facility and audit for effectiveness. • Lead department in continuous improvement initiatives. Serve as the primary liaison for project fulfillment between core GPS pillar teams (TQM, FI, CSD, DTM, Safety) and the Press Department. • Support TQM pillar initiatives to ensure products meet or exceed customer expectations. Ensure operational leaders and employees complete required quality checks and audits, incident investigations, and sustain corrective/preventative measures. • Build and maintain productive employee relationships, driving employee satisfaction. • Provide direction, training, and development to the Production Management Team as needed. • Provide coaching, counseling, or discipline as needed. Recommend disciplinary action to Plant Manager and review disciplinary action by managers for effectiveness and consistency. Work with HR business partners to address employee concerns and issues. • Coordinate with Graphics to ensure all printed jobs meet or exceed customer specifications. Serve as liaison between Graphics and Production teams for any off-specification events; support Graphics directly as needed. • Coordinate with Graphics and Technical to conduct trials to improve efficiencies • Oversee plate check/mounting/remount reduction efforts to include plant cost reduction process and ensure efficiency in all processes. • Implement Betaflex to reduce plate remake costs/events. • Ensure anilox management system is sustained. • Responsible for the Twinlock sleeve inventory management process • Identify and correct sources of excessive color match downtime This is an ONSITE position located out of our Elk Grove Village, IL Facility

• Associate degree (or equivalent education) and sufficient technical training and/or equivalent flexographic printing work experience. • Minimum of 2 years of manufacturing experience or equivalent. • Minimum of 1 year of leadership experience. • Demonstrated proficiency with specific IT systems and Microsoft Office; Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint to include creating charts, graphs, SOP’s, One Point Lessons, presentations • Proven record of safety leadership. • Must have high level of integrity, trust, and ethical standards. • Must be able and willing to work overtime and flexible schedule as needed to support all shifts. • Must have above average communication skills (written & verbal). • Must be able to maintain composure and professional tact at all times. • Demonstrate a strong work ethic, with dedication to employees remaining safe. • Comfortable in public speaking and training large groups of coworkers. • Ability to complete Red Cross 1st Aid & CPR/AED certification. • Bachelor’s degree preferred. • Strong hands-on experience of Flexo process work (3-5 years) is preferred. • Flexo print and plate experience • Pre-Press, Plate and Press troubleshooting experience
• Previous education and/or training in manufacturing, engineering, safety or related field preferred. • Bilingual in Spanish and English is strongly preferred.
