About this role

Work Flexibility: Onsite

Essential Functions:

• This co-op will involve a combination of lab work and desk work at a Stryker R&D facility in Burnaby, B.C. and will focus on supporting the evaluation of various technologies that may be utilized in future Stryker vision systems. • Except for occasional work at other lab sites in the GVRD, all work is anticipated to be on-site in Burnaby • The successful co-op candidate will be directed and supervised by a senior R&D staff member, but the expectation is that the candidate is self-managed, self-motivated, and has hands-on problem-solving skills

Responsibilities: Working under the direction of a supervisor, the responsibilities for this co-op role will include:

• Assembly and testing of electro-optical systems for illumination, image acquisition, and measurement • Design, execution and analysis and documentation of experiments in conformance with the scientific method • Technical writing and presentation • In addition to handling electro-optical

Physical and Mental Requirements:

• Minimal physical demand, but may require lifting and carrying of technical equipment • Role requires ability to work with focus for extended periods commensurate with demands on university students in this field

Qualifications:

• Education: • Completed 3rd year undergrad physics or engineering physics (or similar) program. Completed 4th year undergrad or master's student preferred. • Available for an 8-month co-op term • Previous co-op experience is advantageous.

• Skills and Experience: • Aptitude for experimental design and execution • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills • Proficient with personal productivity software such as Microsoft Office tools (i.e., Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.) • Excellent written and oral communication

• Demonstrated skills in any of the following is advantageous: • Mechanical design with CAD Software • Rapid fabrication techniques (3D printing) • Optical system prototyping and testing • Image analysis using tools such as Matlab, ImageJ, Python, etc. • Experience with data compilation and analysis • Knowledge of optics

Canada Pay Ranges: • Canada: $44,500 - $59,300 CAD Annual • Canada, Burnaby: $48,300 - $64,350 CAD Annual

Travel Percentage: 10%
