Job Purpose
To provide technical leadership on geotechnical projects, developing client relationships, mentoring staff and supporting the continued growth of the geotechnical business.
Minimum Requirements:
• A Civil Engineering or Engineering Geology degree.
• At least 10 years (minimum) of experience in geotechnical planning, site investigation, laboratory testing, geotechnical analysis, and technical reporting.
• Experience in leading projects and mentoring technical staff.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office/365 and associated applications.
• Proficiency in geotechnical analysis and modelling software.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Must have a valid passport and be willing to travel internationally.
• Professional registration with ECSA (PrEng) or SACNASP (PrSciNat) in South Africa. Alternatively, relevant professional registration in countries outside of South Africa would also be considered.
• Must be able to support and provide guidance on site as and when required.
• Must be able to bring in own clients and associated work to support the geotechnical engineering workload pipeline for the team.
Responsibilities:
• Lead and manage geotechnical projects from proposal through to design and construction.
• Assist the Geotechnical Practice Leader with business development and client relationships.
• Tender and contract documentation preparation for the geotechnical engineering aspects of engineering projects and geotechnical investigations.
• Planning of field investigations, monitoring programmes and laboratory testing.
• Supervision and management of field investigations, monitoring programmes and laboratory testing.
• Geotechnical analysis and modelling.
• Preparation of geotechnical factual, interpretive, and design reports.
• Supervision of geotechnical activities for engineering construction projects.
• Manage project budgets, programmes and client communication.
• Mentor graduate and junior engineers and engineering geologists.
• Assist the Geotechnical Project Leader in growing the geotechnical business across Africa.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing and new clients.
• Support the development of new service offerings in geotechnical engineering
• Assistance with diversification of the geotechnical team into sectors outside of mining.
