Role OverviewWe are seeking an n8n Tech Lead to drive the technical evolution of a global workflow automation platform. This role sits at the intersection of engineering leadership and deep automation architecture.
You’ll design scalable systems, mentor engineers, and define the technical roadmap for workflow automation — ensuring reliability, performance, and innovation at every layer. This is not a traditional people management role, but one where you lead through code, architecture, and technical influence.

Core ResponsibilitiesWorkflow Development & ManagementDesign advanced automation workflows using n8n’s visual builder and 400+ integrationsBuild lightweight custom nodes and functions using JavaScript/TypeScriptAnalyze business processes and create automation strategies that significantly reduce manual workImplement robust error handling, retries, and fallback mechanismsBuild and execute testing strategies covering edge cases and failure scenariosTechnical AdministrationDeploy, configure, and maintain n8n instances across development, staging, and productionMonitor workflow execution, identify bottlenecks, and optimize performanceImplement security best practices: API key rotation, access control, credential managementDefine backup strategies and disaster recovery planningManage workflow versioning and deployments using Git-based workflowsIntegration & DevelopmentBuild API integrations using REST APIs, webhooks, and custom authenticationTransform, validate, and enrich data using JavaScriptDevelop workflows that interact with SQL and NoSQL databasesCreate reusable JavaScript functions across workflowsImplement webhook-based real-time integrationsBusiness PartnershipWork with stakeholders to convert business needs into technical workflowsDocument workflow logic, dependencies, and maintenance proceduresTrain users on automation best practices and self-service capabilitiesProvide Tier 2/3 support for workflow issues and resolve complex automation incidentsRequirements
Must-Haves (Required)2+ years of hands-on experience with n8nProven expertise in complex workflows (20+ nodes, conditional logic, loops, batch processing)Strong understanding of REST APIs, OAuth2, API keys, JWT, and rate limitingJavaScript proficiency (ES6+, async/await, debugging, error handling)Experience with JSON/XML manipulation, data validation, and data mappingAbility to write SQL queries and interact with databasesGit version control fundamentalsExperience with Docker basics, Linux command line, and cloud environment fundamentalsAbility to manage multiple n8n environments with reliability and uptime focusNice-to-Haves (Preferred)Experience with Python for data processingExperience with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, NetSuite)Experience with Salesforce, HubSpot, Pipedrive, or similar CRMsExposure to observability tools, logging, and workflow monitoringExperience connecting on-premise systems with cloud applications
