School-Based Physical Therapist The School-Based Physical Therapist (PT) provides evaluation, consultation, and direct physical therapy services to students with disabilities whose motor needs impact their ability to access and participate in their educational program. The physical therapist collaborates with educators, related service providers, and families to support student participation, mobility, independence, and safety within the school environment. Essential Responsibilities
• Conduct comprehensive physical therapy evaluations to determine students' educationally relevant motor needs.
• Interpret evaluation results and prepare written reports with recommendations for eligibility, accommodations, goals, and services.
• Participate as an active member of multidisciplinary evaluation and IEP teams.
• Develop measurable annual IEP goals and objectives related to gross motor skills, functional mobility, positioning, balance, strength, endurance, and participation in school activities.
• Provide direct and consultative physical therapy services as outlined in students' IEPs.
• Monitor student progress and maintain accurate documentation of therapy sessions and progress toward IEP goals.
• Recommend and assist with the selection, fitting, and implementation of adaptive equipment, mobility devices, positioning equipment, and environmental modifications.
• Train school personnel on safe student handling, transfers, positioning, mobility techniques, and use of adaptive equipment.
• Consult with families regarding strategies to promote student independence and participation in school routines.
• Assist in planning for accessibility and participation in classroom instruction, school activities, field trips, and emergency evacuation procedures.
Qualifications
• Current DESE licensure
• Current licensure as a Physical Therapist in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
• Experience working with children and adolescents in educational settings preferred.
• Experience with assistive technology, adaptive equipment, and school-based service delivery preferred.
