JOB SUMMARY: The Driver Trainer assists the Supervisor of Transportation in the planning and implementation of a driver training program and the safe and efficient operation of the CCPS Transportation system. QUALIFICATIONS/ COMPETENCIES:
• Holds a high school diploma or G.E.D.
• Minimum of three (3) years of experience driving a school bus.
• Have a Valid Maryland CDL with air brake, passenger, and school bus endorsements.
• Must complete MSDE certification for driver instructor, as identified in COMAR within six (6) months of employment.
• Knowledge of Federal and State driving regulations and Caroline County roads.
• Ability to work cooperatively with adults and plan and conduct training programs.
• Ability to utilize effective oral and written communication.
• Computer Skills: Basic knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint programs, and internet applications; willingness to pursue training.
• Other Skills: Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Maintain excellent attendance and punctuality.
• Plan and conduct six (6) hours of yearly in-service training.
• Provide federal, state, and county required instruction for new drivers and aides
• Maintain detailed driver training records locally and in the federal database
• Attend required workshops and meetings.
• Represent the Supervisor of Transportation when assigned.
• Collaborate with the Supervisor of Transportation to oversee transportation software programs.
• Cover the Transportation Office when necessary.
• Provide resources to assist in driver performance improvement and growth.
• Perform and record annual evaluations of other bus drivers.
• Assist in interpreting and utilizing assessment data.
• Assist drivers in performance improvement and growth.
• Promote the programs of the school system with staff, students, parents and _other community members.
• Evaluate transportation routes, bus stop locations, and report unsafe road conditions.
• Help assess road conditions during inclement weather.
• Serve as a substitute bus driver or aide on routes when needed.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (continued):
• Provide leadership in the development and implementation of a safe and efficient transportation system.
• Assist in the investigation of all school vehicle accidents as a member of the Accident Review Committee.
• Assist with bus maintenance and minor repairs when necessary.
• Assist with regular bus inspections.
• Maintain confidentiality as applicable to transportation matters
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor of Transportation.
PAY & HOURS: This is a 10-month, 6.5 hours per day position with some part-time hours during the summer months. This position will sometimes require unusual work hours and occasional overtime. Caroline County Board of Education, Support Services Driver Trainer pay scale (lane-E). Placement on the appropriate salary step will be based on knowledge, experience, skills, and training related to this position.
