QUALIFICATIONS:
• A valid NYS Elementary Certification K-6 OR both NYS Early Childhood B-2 AND NYS Childhood Education 1-6 Certifications
• Demonstrated successful classroom experience as a tenured teacher in grades K-6, with remediating students in math preferred
• Possess the belief that all children can excel and be encouraged, nurtured, and challenged
• Possess a demonstrated ability to "go above and beyond the call of duty" in all aspects of job performance, including, but not limited to, contributing to the school community
• Extensive training and experience implementing effective mathematical practices
• Knowledge and use of the “concrete, pictorial, abstract” learning progression, as well as research supporting effective math instruction.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Maintains regular communication, collaborates closely with, and works under the direction of the Director of Mathematics.
• Implements the district-wide structure(s) and model(s) for intervention as articulated.
• Participates in discussions or activities focused on using research to improve math instruction.
• Participates in staff development focused on delivery of math intervention and assessment.
• Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, administrative guidelines, or specific program requirements.
• Strengthens students' knowledge of mathematics and helps students be successful in their mathematics classroom.
• Assesses students using a wide variety of measures to assist in the selection of students who may qualify for Academic Intervention Services (AIS) and to inform instruction.
• Provides additional time for focused instruction and/or increased student-teacher instructional contact time designed to help students achieve the learning standards.
• Effectively communicates with administrators, parents, and students.
• Regularly communicates, collaborates, and plans with classroom teachers and other specialists in and among the buildings.
• Creates an engaging instructional environment using research-based approaches aligned with district initiatives under the guidance and direction of the Instructional Specialist for Mathematics.
• Uses a variety of manipulatives and hands-on activities to support student discovery of content standards.
• Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction or his/her designee.
