Position: Extended Term Substitute, Pre-K Teacher, Two Way Immersion Available September 2026 through December 2026 Amigos School Amigos School Community: La Escuela Amigos está dedicada a una sólida tradición de excelencia en la educación bilingüe del inglés y el español. Located in the Cambridgeport neighborhood, Amigos is a comprehensive PK – 8 school. Amigos welcomes students from diverse neighborhoods and cultural backgrounds. Through school-community collaborations, Amigos strives to provide quality out-of-school-time programs that foster linguistic and cultural connections. Two-way immersion develops high levels of academic achievement, bilingualism, and cultural competencies among students and contributes to the long-term preparation of students for the global economy. Bringing culturally diverse students together in situations in which each has equal status spurs motivation and promotes cohesion, community building, and cooperation. The Opportunity: The Pre-Kindergarten Two-Way extended term substitute will provide instruction to students in Spanish (80%) and English (20%) within a self-contained classroom. The successful candidate will collaborate with grade-level, cluster, and whole-school teams of teachers, including specialists in ESL, SSL, and Special Education. This individual must plan and implement a curriculum that is academically and linguistically active, developmentally appropriate, and socially/culturally responsive to the needs of the dual language student population. They will have experience in planning, implementing, and adapting an ongoing curriculum that aligns with the Massachusetts State Frameworks and the local Cambridge Learning Expectations for CPP. Additionally, they will work collaboratively with parents and guardians to involve them in classroom activities and school-wide events. Other related duties as assigned. Your Skill Set: As the incoming PreKindergarten Extended Term Substitute, you will possess many, though perhaps not all, of the following characteristics and qualifications:
• Bachelor's Degree or higher from an accredited college or university, including coursework in first and second language acquisition.
• High levels or native language proficiency in Spanish and English, including listening, speaking, reading, grammar and writing (required).
• Familiarity with and appreciation of PreKindergarten students, their needs, and interests.
• Previous and successful experience working in a multicultural environment and demonstrated implementation of culturally responsive practices that includes students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socio-economic backgrounds.
• Massachusetts Certification: Early Childhood PreK-2; Foreign Language (Spanish) Certification PreK-6 preferred but not required
