POSITION REPORTS TO: Director of Special Education PAY GRADE: T-1
FLSA STATUS: Exempt ASSIGNMENT PERIOD 182
II. SUMMARY OF POSITION'S PURPOSE: Assist students with special needs by providing professional development, job-embedded training, assessments, consultations and technical assistance to teachers, family and other school personnel. III. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION – Bachelor's Degree. Valid Louisiana Teaching Certificate. Certification in one or more areas of special education. Three years of successful school experience. Additional criteria as the Board may require.
• DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Observes and assesses students for concerns as expressed by the student's teacher, parent and school staff.
• Gathers information and data pertinent to the student's area of concern.
• Complete all assessment/consultation reports accurately and within timelines as required by local, state and federal policies.
• Interpret and present assessments/consultations and observational results and outcomes in an accurate, clear, and concise manner to school personnel and parents.
• Collaborates with teachers to develop plans and participates in conferences with school staff and parents.
• Attends and actively participates in meetings/staffing's with appropriate school and family team members.
• Prioritizes and addresses requests and assignments in a professional manner to develop cooperative relationships.
• Assists co-workers in the completion of tasks and assignments to ensure continuity of service.
• Provides intervention and/or equipment to the student and provides consultation and supervision for educational personnel implementing the interventions/equipment according to the student's educational plan.
• Provides individualized assistance and/or in-service training to educational personnel in regards to specific educational and behavioral strategies/interventions.
• Provides professional, courteous and prompt service to all person including administrators, students, parents, co-workers, etc.
• Maintains required documentation and records.
• Participates in professional growth and development activities relevant to area of expertise in the school system and in required job-related meetings and activities.
• Complies with all school, parish, state and federal policies and regulations within given profession.
• Adheres to professional standards of conduct and code of professional ethics.
• Performs additional duties/services assigned by administration.
Teachers shall be expected to perform the following duties, along with the completion of corresponding documents, forms, and reports:

• Supervision of students prior to school and/or drop-off, when assigned
• Supervision of students in the classroom
• Supervision of students between classes, during recess/intermission, during lunch, assemblies
• Supervision of students after school and/or pick-up, when assigned
• Non-instructional Components
• Attend meetings generally associated with the instructions of students
• Attend faculty, staff, and department meetings
• Attend training sessions
• Attend IEP meetings
• Attend parent-teacher conferences
• Attend back-to-school and open-house events
• Attend graduation
• Attend PGP, PIP, Evaluation, Observation, IAP, and student discipline meetings/hearings
• Attend school board/committee meetings, upon request
• Extracurricular Activities
• Attend/work concessions/gates of no more than 15 athletic events per school year as requested by the principal or designee
• Attend all meetings and functions of those activities, clubs, or groups of which the employee is a sponsor
