About this role

PRIMARY PURPOSE: To provide support to classroom teachers and students by promoting effective classroom management strategies and assisting with the implementation of school-wide discipline procedures, thereby fostering a positive, safe, and productive learning environment. QUALIFICATIONS: Education/Certification:

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited university.

• Eligible for a valid Texas teaching certificate appropriate for teaching assignment (Standard, Provisional or One-Year certificates only; ACP candidates on a probationary certificate do not qualify); must be grade level certified.

• Minimum of three (3) years of successful experience as a classroom teacher, PBIS experience preferred.

• Must be willing to obtain and maintain a current automated external defibrillator (AED), CPI and CPR certificate.

Special Knowledge/Skills:

• Demonstrate excellent classroom management skills and strategies.

• Knowledge of Social Skill instruction and behavior modification programs. Ability to develop and implement positive behavior supports for students in their classrooms.

• Ability to facilitate small group and individual, social and behavior lessons.

• Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

• Develop Student Support plans and contracts for students.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Probationary/Term Contract: 187 days The position is open to current elementary/middle school teachers and external applicants. SALARY: $64,207 (IA-3) ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Attendance

• Regular and reliable attendance is an essential job function.

Student Growth and Development

• Develop and monitor implementation of Student Support Plans and other behavior contracts.

• Facilitate small group and individual behavior skills lessons with students.

• Facilitate and develop avenues of data collection to monitor student behavior progress.

• Meet regularly with campus behavior coordinator or designated assistant principal(s) regarding behavior trends, individual student progress, action plans, etc.

• Be a positive role model for students; support the mission of the school district.

Classroom Management and Organization

• Work with teachers to create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.

• Model, support and communicate effective classroom management strategies to allow the teacher to manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and the student handbook.

• Assist in selecting books and other resources to support behavior goals for the classroom

• Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.

Communication

• Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.

Professional Growth and Development

• Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.

• Comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.

• Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.

• Other duties assigned by the campus administration.

MENTAL DEMANDS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:

• Tools/Equipment Used: Personal computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment; [Physical Education Teachers: Must be willing to obtain and maintain a current automated external defibrillator (AED), CPI and CPR certificate]

• Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

• Motion: Frequent walking; frequent redirection of students

• Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); may lift and move textbooks and classroom equipment

• Environment: Work inside, may work outside; regular exposure to noise

• Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; work prolonged or irregular hours; de-escalate those in crisis during tense situations
