About this role

Job Title: Lead Counselor, High School Reports to: Campus Principal Dept.: Assigned Campus Exemption Status: Exempt Pay Scale: AP2 Calendar: 207 Primary Purpose: Plan, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive program of guidance at assigned campus. Supervise a proactive developmental guidance program to encourage all students to maximize personal growth and development. Serve as a leader to assist with coordinating academic information and all counseling services. Qualifications:

• Three years of secondary teaching experience (preferred)

Education/Certification:

• Master's degree in school counseling

• Valid Texas School Counselor Certification

Experience:

• Has a minimum of 3 years secondary counseling experience

Special Knowledge/Skills:

• Knowledge of counseling procedures, student appraisal, and career development

• Knowledge of appropriate counselor interventions for student achievement and behavior

• Ability to present information in one-on-one, small group, and large group situations to students, parents, and district staff

• Knowledge of district guidelines pertinent to counseling services

• Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.

• Willingness to serve in a leadership capacity, coordinating the work of colleagues

• Well organized and able to manage multiple responsibilities and tasks on time

• Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

• Strong organizational communication, public relations, and interpersonal skill

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

• Performs all the duties associated with Secondary School Counselors, AND

• Works side-by-side with campus administrators in evaluating student data in order for the counseling department to support ALL students in scholastic success and behavior and emotional needs that may be a barrier to a positive school experience; and guide students in planning for graduation and college and career readiness

• Coordinates the monitoring of students experiencing truancy, failures, and behavioral issues and work with the counseling team and campus administrators to develop a planof intervention

• Assist with coordinating the activities of the counseling department, including schedulingschool day and evening events for communicating important information to students and Parents

• Works with middle school counselors to coordinate the course selection process and Transition activities of students from middle school to high school

• Coordinates consistency in student scheduling, data entry of grades, and production of transcripts

• Pursue professional development activities that align with campus goals and initiatives and current professional research.

• Other related duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibilities: As assigned by Campus Principal Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Tools/Equipment Used: computer, printer; standard instructional equipment Posture: Prolonged sitting; frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting Motion: Frequent walking Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds) Environment: Work inside, may work outside. Work must be performed on site. Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; may work prolonged or irregular hours
