PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY SCHOOLS POSITION DESCRIPTION POSITION TITLE: Special Education Coordinator FLSA: Exempt REPORTS TO: Assistant Superintendent for Support Services TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Twelve-month employee SUPERVISES: Special Education programs and procedures in assigned areas and Division schools QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
• Hold a Master's or Advanced Degree with a Postgraduate Professional License
• Demonstrate proficiency with the special education process
• Demonstrate success in special education teaching assignments across multiple grade levels, instructional settings, and disability categories
PREFERRED:
• Endorsement in Administration and Supervision
• Endorsement in Special Education
• Demonstrated leadership skills as evidenced by school and/or Division-level duties
• Broad knowledge base of educational assessment tools, intervention strategies, and specialized programming
• Extensive knowledge of Virginia Tiered Systems of Supports (VTSS) and
• Positive Behavioral Intervention and Support (PBIS)
• Experience with the Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBA) process and Behavioral Intervention Plan (BIP) development
• Experience with the Community Services Act (CSA), and private day and residential placement determinations
FOCUS: The Special Education Coordinator(s) will provide support to administrators, special education and general education teachers, and families related to the special education process. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
• Provide special education support for administration, special education teachers, and general education teachers in assigned schools
• Coordinate special education programming as directed by the Assistant Superintendent for Support Services
• Communicate and provide oversight for special education procedures and protocols
• Serve as the Local Education Agency (LEA) representative in special education meetings
• Ensure Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) compliance in all areas of responsibility
• Conduct achievement assessment, develop related reports, and attend eligibility meetings
• Provide staff support for Individualized Education Program (IEP) development
• Provide professional development for school staff, as needed, in assigned areas
• Collaborate with Support Services staff to address areas of need
• Abide by State statutes, School Board policies and regulations
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
• Perform other duties, as assigned, by the Assistant Superintendent for Support Services
SALARY RANGE: $69,988.92-$96,584.73 PLEASE NOTE:
