JEFFERSON COUNTY SCHOOLS Job Description POSITION: School Communicator IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: School Principal / Director of Communications FLSA STATUS: Exempt EMPLOYMENT TERM: Temporary, part-time position. As needed extracurricular assignment/contract. SALARY: Stipend EVALUATION: Performance in this position will be evaluated by the employee's principal as well as the Director of Communications and Public Information in accordance with WV State Code § ISA-2-12, WV State Board Policy 5310, and JCS Evaluation Policy. JOB SUMMARY: The School Communicator supports school-level communications and serves as a liaison to the Jefferson County Schools (JCS) Communications team. This extra-duty position plays a key role in keeping families and school community informed and engaged by maintaining accurate and engaging digital content and showcasing school events and achievements. MAJOR POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Maintain and update the school website, including the calendar, staff directory, and other content as needed.

• Update and manage website header photos to keep content fresh and engaging.

• Create and distribute two regular newsletters per month for families and staff.

• Submit at least two stories or event highlights (with photos) each month to the JCS Communications team for potential use on district platforms.

• Support school leadership in promoting key initiatives, events, and announcements.

• Ensure all school communications align with JCS branding and messaging standards.

• Attend regular training sessions and meetings for school communication liaisons.

• Adhere to website structure and content guidelines provided by the JCS Communications Coordinator.

• Ensure the school website complies with accessibility requirements under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and support staff in maintaining compliance.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Familiarity with digital communication tools and basic website editing.

• Organized, proactive, and detail oriented.

• Ability to collaborate effectively with school staff and the district communications team.

Must be able to demonstrate behaviors that reflect established professional responsibilities (i.e., attendance, punctuality, professional dress, and verbal/nonverbal communication); and develop a positive relationship with students, staff, and community, and meet deadlines. WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Most commonly, the educational setting is indoors with outdoor settings for recess and field trip activities. The noise level in the work environment is low to moderate (20-60 dB).
