About this role
MONITOR CANTON SOUTH HIGH SCHOOL 5.5 hours per day Reports to: School Administration Description: Monitoring student movement throughout the school building where needed The below lists are not ranked in order of importance Essential Functions:
• Ensure safety of students
• Assist Principal in identifying attendance or tardiness problems
• Make contacts with the public with tact and diplomacy
• Maintain respect at all times for confidential information
• Interact in a positive manner with staff, students and parents
• Promote good public relations by personal appearance, attitude and conversation
• Attend meetings and in-services as required
• Promote good social relationships between students
• Interact with classroom teachers, administrators and community members in the building
• Maintain records of student behavior
• Instruct students on rules and consequences of study hall
• Monitor hall during change of class
• Monitor students in study hall
• Take student attendance in study hall
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
• Assist with restroom breaks/lunch
• Supervise general housekeeping duties
• Handle correspondence with Principal
• Keep records up-to-date
• Monitor and supervise students during dismissal
• Distribute assigned writing material
• Respond to routine questions and requests in an appropriate manner
• Serve as a role model for students
• Perform other duties as assigned by the High School Principal
Qualifications:
• One year related experience
• High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board of Education may find appropriate
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Ability to work effectively with others
• Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writing
• Effective, active listening skills
• Basic training in first aid
• Certification in CPR
• Organizational and problem-solving skills
Additional Working Conditions:
• Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue
• Frequent interactions among unruly children
• Occasional operation of a vehicle in inclement weather conditions, i.e., being prepared to come to work on all scheduled workdays, except calamity days
• Frequent requirement to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, see, read, speak, reach, stretch with hands and arms, crouch, stoop, kneel, and climb
• Occasionally lift, carry, push, and pull various items up to a maximum of 25 pounds
