• Valid Tennessee teaching license with appropriate Physical Education (K-12) endorsement.
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
• Strong communication, organization, and classroom management skills.
• Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, parents, and the community.
• Must meet all TSSAA, Tennessee Department of Education, and Johnson County Schools requirements for coaching assignments.
Position Summary The Physical Education Teacher/Coach is responsible for providing high-quality physical education instruction that promotes lifelong fitness, wellness, teamwork, and sportsmanship. This individual fosters a positive learning environment while supporting the mission, vision, and goals of Johnson County Schools through excellence in instruction and extracurricular activities. Essential Responsibilities Instruction
• Plan and deliver engaging, standards-based physical education instruction.
• Develop lessons that promote physical fitness, motor skills, teamwork, and healthy lifestyles.
• Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
• Assess student performance and provide timely, meaningful feedback.
• Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and student progress.
• Create and maintain a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment.
• Integrate district initiatives, technology, and best instructional practices into daily instruction.
• Support school-wide programs and activities that promote student wellness.
School Leadership
• Coordinate and assist with school-wide physical education activities, including Field Day and other wellness initiatives.
• Collaborate effectively with teachers, administrators, counselors, and support staff.
• Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress and concerns.
• Serve as a positive role model for students through professionalism, integrity, and ethical conduct.
Coaching Responsibilities A coaching assignment is an expected component of this position. The successful candidate will be expected to serve as a head or assistant coach in an athletic program as assigned based on district needs and qualifications. Coaching duties include:
• Conduct practices and competitions in accordance with TSSAA rules and district expectations.
• Promote sportsmanship, character, accountability, and academic success among student-athletes.
• Maintain appropriate supervision of student-athletes during practices, contests, travel, and other team activities.
• Communicate effectively with athletes, parents, administration, and fellow coaches.
• Complete all required coaching certifications and annual state-mandated training.
• Assist with equipment management, facilities, scheduling, fundraising (as approved), and program development.
Attendance Expectations Attendance at school and extracurricular events is an essential function of this position. The employee is expected to:
• Maintain regular and dependable attendance.
• Report to work on time and fulfill all assigned contractual duties.
• Attend faculty meetings, professional development, in-service training, and other required district or school meetings.
• Attend practices, contests, and other athletic events associated with the assigned coaching duties.
• Be available for occasional evening, weekend, holiday, and summer activities as required by the coaching assignment.

Physical Demands The employee must be able to demonstrate physical activities, supervise students in indoor and outdoor environments, stand and walk for extended periods, lift and move athletic equipment, and perform the physical requirements associated with teaching physical education and coaching athletic teams.
