Job Summary An Energy Management Control Systems Trainee is responsible for learning the installation, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of energy management systems (EMS), HVACR systems, and associated controls. This role supports energy conservation efforts while ensuring safe and comfortable environments in facilities. This position lies below that of Energy Management Control Systems Technician I. System Monitoring & Operation · Learn to operate EMS and HVACR systems using computers and software. · Learn to monitor daily energy usage and system performance. · Learn to implement set point changes to maintain environmental conditions. · Learn to add schedules into all controls systems. Maintenance & Troubleshooting · Learn to perform preventive and reactive maintenance on EMS and HVACR systems. · Learn to troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electromechanical, and electronic control systems. · Learn to calibrate and maintain energy management equipment to design specifications. 45% 25%
Installation & Integration
• Learn to install data collection/control devices and network connections.
• Learn to integrate HVACR and life safety systems with EMS per safety code.
• Learn to assist in commissioning new systems and inspecting warranty items.
Technical Support & Collaboration
• Provide assistance to maintenance personnel and school staff.
• Collaborate with administrators to ensure healthy learning environments.
• Learn to train staff on operational procedures for EMS equipment.

Reporting & Documentation
• Prepare reports based on system data and trend analysis.
• Maintain accurate records and as-built drawings.
• Update software and technical documentation.

• Ability to learn microprocessor-based control systems
• Ability to learn HVACR systems (chillers, boilers, air handlers)
• Ability to learn electrical and mechanical systems
• Ability to learn to interpret wiring diagrams and schematics
• Ability to learn to use EMS software and diagnostic tools
• Ability to learn to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical personnel
• Ability to operate a motor vehicle
