• Job Purpose:

Position Title Nursing Fundamentals / Health Science Teacher Department Career and Technical Education (CTE) – Health Science Education Reports To Principal and CTE Director Employment Status Full-Time, 10-Month Certified Position FLSA Status Exempt Licensure Requirements Holds or is eligible for a North Carolina Professional Educator License in Health Science Education or approved area; meets NCDPI requirements; healthcare experience preferred; current CPR/AED and First Aid certification or willingness to obtain. General Purpose Provides classroom, laboratory, and clinical instruction to prepare students for healthcare careers through standards-based instruction in Nursing Fundamentals and Health Science while promoting patient safety, ethics, and employability skills. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver instruction aligned with the North Carolina Health Science curriculum.

• Teach Nursing Fundamentals, anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, infection control, patient care skills, nutrition, safety, and healthcare ethics.

• Utilize technology and differentiated instructional strategies.

• Maintain a safe healthcare skills laboratory and supervise hands-on learning.

• Ensure compliance with OSHA, HIPAA, and infection control standards.

• Assess student learning through classroom and skills-based evaluations.

• Prepare students for industry-recognized credentials when applicable.

• Maintain accurate grades, records, and CTE documentation.

• Promote HOSA participation and career exploration.

• Collaborate with parents, administrators, counselors, and healthcare partners.

• Participate in professional development and maintain licensure.

• Perform other duties assigned by the principal.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of nursing fundamentals and patient care.

• Strong classroom management and communication skills.

• Ability to safely teach healthcare procedures.

• Proficiency with instructional technology.

• Ability to build positive relationships with students and community partners.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.

• Valid North Carolina Professional Educator License (or eligibility).

• Meets NCDPI Health Science licensure requirements.

• Healthcare industry experience preferred.

• Current CPR certification or ability to obtain.

Working Conditions Work is performed in classrooms, healthcare simulation labs, and clinical settings when applicable. Frequent standing, walking, demonstrating patient care procedures, and lifting instructional materials to 25 pounds may be required. Evaluation Performance will be evaluated in accordance with Burke County Public Schools policies and the North Carolina Educator Evaluation System.
