Trimble County Public Schools Position/Job Description District Community Educator

220 DAYS 7 HOURS A DAY

Purpose: To direct the community education program including adult and student enrichment, high school completion, preschool, summer school, and senior citizens. To develop and manage programs, ensure a balanced budget, and assess community needs. Reports To: Assistant Superintendent Qualifications:

• High School Diploma

• Communicate effectively both orally and in writing with parents, students and faculty.

• Demonstrate people skills to indicate ability to function in a team oriented environment.

Administrative Responsibilities:

• Report to the district assistant superintendent about all community education operational procedures and program activities.

• Adhere to school board policies in program development and implementation.

• Facilitate the full participation of the community education advisory council in the community education process and program development.

• Coordinate the utilization of school facilities and resources to provide programs and services needed by the community.

• Establish a process to ensure optimal home-school-community cooperation, e.g., parent involvement, interagency collaboration, and community partnerships.

• Develop and implement a plan for maintaining a harmonious relationship with school administrators, faculty, and staff.

• Evaluate and document the effectiveness of the community education process for involving the community.

Program Responsibilities:

• Coordinate the development of community education programs that benefit community members of all ages, interests, and needs.

• Work with the community advisory council during all stages of program development.

• Design and implement community wide needs and resource assessments that will provide information not already available. (Community assessment should be a continuous process.)

• Coordinate programs and services based on the information obtained from the community.

• Establish enrollment procedures and fee schedules for classes and activities.

• Develop and obtain approval of the program budget.

• Seek additional resources, when needed, to supplement expanded community programs and services.

• Assist the school instructional staff in the development and operation of programs capable of enriching the P-12 curriculum.

• Establish and maintain comprehensive record keeping, reporting, and evaluation procedures.

• Meet deadlines with severe time constraints.

• Work irregular or extended work hours to implement community programs and services.

• Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent and/or Designee.

Communication Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement a plan for informing all school district personnel about community education before programs are begun.

• Keep administrators and staff members of each school informed about programs scheduled in their building. Include them in the planning process when possible.

• Devise a plan for mediating differences among P-12 programs and those sponsored by community education or other agencies.

• Develop and implement plans for enlisting and maintaining the support of community groups, service agencies, news media, community leaders, and others in the community.

• Plan and implement a marketing campaign for community education programs, classes, and activities.

• Coordinate activities that will develop community awareness of the philosophy and goals of community education.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to push, pull, or lift exerting up to 30 pounds of force

• Grasping – applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.

• Repetitive Motion – substantial and continuous movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.

• Talking – expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word.

• Hearing Acuity – perceiving speech and other environmental sounds at normal loudness levels.

• Visual Acuity – seeing at a level which allows reading of numbers and text, operation of equipment, inspection of machines, etc.

• Color - ability to identify and distinguish colors

• Peripheral – observing an area that can be seen up and down or right and left when eyes are fixed on a given point.
