TITLE: Technology Specialist Level I, Level II or Level III The Technology Specialist I provides technical support for the Portales Municipal School District by installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing technology equipment and software while supporting staff and students in the effective use of technology. Minimum Qualifications:
• High School Diploma or GED required
• Associate's Degree in Technology preferred
• Must demonstrate a working knowledge of Windows-based computer systems
• Must have reliable transportation to travel between district sites
Begin Date: Beginning of 2026/2027 School Year This position is open until filled. Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
• Work cooperatively with colleagues, supervisors, and administrators.
• Demonstrate ethical behavior and maintain confidentiality.
• Follow all district policies, administrative regulations, and technology procedures.
• Maintain professional conduct and appearance.
• Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair district technology equipment.
• Assist with the installation and maintenance of computer labs.
• Install and support district-adopted software and technology systems.
• Provide technical support to district staff and serve as a technology resource at assigned sites.
• Assist with technology training and staff development.
• Support implementation of the district's Technology Plan.
• Pick up, transport, and deliver technology equipment and related materials throughout the district.
• Contact vendors regarding equipment, repairs, and technical information.
• Keep current with trends and developments in educational technology.
• Maintain accurate documentation and time logs for work completed.
• Transport hardware and equipment to district work sites as needed.
• Support the value of education and the philosophy and mission of the Portales Municipal Schools.
• Respond to change productively and perform other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements: Sitting, standing, walking, lifting, carrying, reaching, climbing, squatting, kneeling, and moving equipment are required. This position regularly requires lifting and carrying equipment weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally lifting items exceeding 50 pounds. Safety/Health and Other Requirements:
• Knowledgeable of universal hygiene precautions.
• An FBI fingerprint background check will be conducted on all new hires of the Portales Municipal Schools. Continued employment will be contingent upon the results of the background check.
• Must be willing to work both indoors and outdoors.
• Must be able to work under stressful conditions when necessary.
• Must possess reliable transportation to travel between district facilities.
Equipment/Material Handled: Must have the knowledge and ability to operate, install, maintain, and troubleshoot computers, multimedia equipment, peripherals, networking components, and other current technology utilized throughout the district. Work Environment: Must work within various degrees of noise, temperature, and air quality. Interruptions of work are routine. Flexibility and patience are required. Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignments with minimal supervision. Frequent travel between district buildings is required. After-hours work may be required to complete installations, upgrades, maintenance, or emergency repairs. Portales Municipal Schools are located in the City of Portales, which has a population of about 15,000. The area's economy is based primarily on agriculture. Portales is the home of Eastern New Mexico University and is less than 20 miles from Cannon Air Force Base near Clovis, NM. The Portales Municipal School District consists of six grade-level schools. This means that each school, except the high school, consists of two grade levels and is not community-based. Portales High School houses grades 9-12, while Brown Early Childhood Center is grades PK-K; James Elementary is 1st and 2nd grade; Valencia Elementary consists of grades 3rd and 4th; Lindsey/Steiner Elementary is grades 5th and 6th; and Portales Junior High is the home of 7th and 8th-grade students.
