Paraprofessional - Special Areas (PE/STEAM) Big Pine Academy Monroe County School District Position Summary The Special Areas Paraprofessional provides instructional and supervisory support to students and teachers in special area classes, including Physical Education (PE), STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics), and other school programs as assigned. The paraprofessional assists with the implementation of lessons, preparation of materials, student supervision, classroom organization, and the promotion of a safe and positive learning environment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Assist students and teachers during PE and STEAM instruction. • Support individual students and small groups with classroom activities and projects. • Prepare, organize, and maintain instructional materials, supplies, equipment, and learning spaces. • Assist with technology integration and hands-on STEAM activities. • Monitor and supervise students during instructional activities, transitions, and school events. • Reinforce teacher-directed instructional strategies and behavior expectations. • Promote student engagement, safety, and positive interactions. • Assist with record keeping, attendance, and other clerical duties as assigned. • Support inclusion of students with exceptionalities in general education settings. • Maintain confidentiality of student information. • Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or designee. Qualifications Applicants must meet Monroe County School District and Florida Department of Education requirements for paraprofessionals, including:
• High school diploma or equivalent. • Ability to work effectively with elementary-aged students. • Ability to communicate and collaborate with teachers, staff, students, and families. • Basic computer and technology skills. • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism. Preferred Qualifications
• Experience working with elementary school students. • Experience supporting physical education, STEM/STEAM, or enrichment programs. • Knowledge of classroom management strategies. • First Aid/CPR certification or willingness to obtain certification. Physical Requirements
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and move throughout the school day. • Ability to assist with PE equipment and classroom materials. • Ability to supervise students in indoor and outdoor learning environments.
