TITLE: SCHOOLS/COMMUNITY EDUCATION DIRECTOR QUALIFICATIONS:
• Holds a bachelor's degree
• Valid KY Teaching Certificate
• Has 3-5 years of experience in communications, public relations, journalism, education, or a related field, including experience in special event planning, writing, and editing/producing a wide variety of public information materials.
• Skilled in community education relations with experience in an education setting preferred.
REPORTS TO: Superintendent JOB GOALS:
• Ensure that district communications and initiatives are efficiently and effectively shared with employees, students, and families and the community of Campbell County Schools.
• Establish business relationships and partnerships with local universities and industries within the region.
• Provide leadership in the development of a comprehensive community engagement plan.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Leads the development of a District Public Relations Plan consistent with the District Strategic Plan and the District Improvement Plan
• Assists and support schools and the district in providing and distributing ongoing “good news” items about events, initiatives, and student and staff recognition
• Plans and executes projects and programs designed to increase positive publicity for the district
• Serves as an advisor to the Superintendent on community relations and media relations matters
• Serves as the district spokesperson and maintains effective two-way communication between the district and its various publics to ensure:
• dissemination of accurate, timely information about policies, programs, procedures, achievements, decisions, and critical issues
• interpretation of decisions and actions
• coordination of programs and practices designed to provide open communication which will elicit ideas and suggestions from the community and employees
• Development of an effective working relationship with the media Responsible for all district social media including district Facebook page, website, Twitter, and all other social media platforms.
• Assists in planning, coordination and implementation of district programs, school board recognitions, award programs, special events, and press conferences, and helps with internal coverage of such events with photos, articles, web presence, and press releases
• Coordinate and participate in teacher recruitment by attending various recruitment events in districts and at Universities.
• Manages issues to prevent potential crisis, monitors environment for potential threats and limits issues by gathering, and relying on, fact
• Participates in community activities, network groups, and related professional organizations to keep abreast of ongoing and current issues in media relations
• Operate a variety of specialized equipment including digital cameras, video cameras and accessories, desktop publishing, social media, and web-based publishing. Remains current in new and advanced knowledge and technology in the field
• Works collaboratively with the Director of Technology and the district webmaster to assure publicity and information about the school district is widely disseminated through a variety of media venues for all stakeholders
• Provides outstanding customer service and responds directly to community requests for information
• Maintain a flexible, sometimes remote, work schedule as needed for public relations and media support at district events.
• Maintains confidential information appropriately and exercises good judgment when communicating with the public
• Performs other duties consistent with the position as may be requested District administration
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
• Ability to perform all aspects of communicating issues and concerns of the district to the media.
• Ability to read, write, and edit communication prior to submitting to media outlets.
• Ability to work flexible hours, remotely, and weekends, as needs to obtain photos, video, and other printed material regarding district activities.
• Ability to answer text messages after hours and place needed information on social media.
• Ability to work independently with little to no direction.
• Ability to work outside as needed to provide public relations information to media outlets.
