About this role
Position Summary The Mediator is responsible for working with the Lead Mediator to provide mediation services to students and staff district-wide. The Mediator is also responsible in assisting the Lead Mediator to reach out to students, parents, teachers and other school personnel and provide training in the techniques of conflict mediation. • Assist in processing mediation requests/referrals; scheduling mediations, coordinating and conducting mediation sessions, monitoring agreements, maintaining records, and issuing reports on services
• Oversee and support peer mediators during mediation sessions
• Assist in creating and delivering presentations regarding mediation and conflict resolution
• In collaboration with the Lead Mediator, provide individual and small group services relative to mediation
• In collaboration with the Lead Mediator, conduct and share research studies which determine the nature of conflicts and analyze factors attitudes and morale
• Assist in the exploration of grant application
• Along with the Lead Mediator, serve as a resource for Somerville Public Schools crisis situations and help coordinate professional mediator response as needed
• In collaboration with the Lead Mediator, support K-12 mediation initiatives, and oversee peer mediation programming at SPS
• In collaboration with the Lead Mediator, coordinate with community agencies and others with related responsibilities
• Perform other duties as may.be assigned

Qualifications, Knowledge, Abilities, & Skills
• Mediation Certificate required. Must be a trained mediator
• Bachelor's degree in Conflict resolution, Counseling, Social Work, or related field preferred
• Specific coursework/training in conflict resolution and/or mediation
• Bilingual ability desirable
• Ability to function independently
• Attention to detail and ability to prioritize multiple projects is essential
• Proven communication and effective interpersonal skills required
• Should demonstrate leadership qualities and effective consensus skills
