Intermediate District 287 is looking for a Student and Staff Safety Manager!

Intermediate District 287 serves students in grades K-12, as well as transition age students (18-22 years old), from our 12 member districts in the west metro area. Our district offers a wide range of services and specialized programs, primarily focused on setting IV special education, that is designed to meet the diverse needs of our students. Position Details: Location: Based out of the District Service Center in Plymouth, MN Reports to: Senior Manager of Health & Safety Start Date: September 2026 Contracted days: 261 days This position follows the Employment Guide for Administrators and Unaffiliated Employees Salary: Minimum starting salary for Unaffiliated Managers is $79,000 Benefits:

Education and Experience Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in education, special education, law enforcement, behavior, safety, and security, or a related field received from an accredited institution

• Two (2) years of experience working with individuals with disabilities and/or complex needs.

• Must have a working knowledge of de-escalation techniques and intervention strategies. (CPI preferred)

OR:

• An equivalent combination of education and experience, as listed in the general education and experience above, will be considered as having an acceptable substitution.

Preferred Experience:

• Two (2) years of supervisory experience leading multi-site teams.

• Two (2) years of experience leading large-scale safety training.

Licensure Requirements

• First Aid and CPR Certified

• Minnesota Protective Agent License (preferred)

• State of Minnesota Emergency Manager Certified (preferred)

Essential Functions The following identifies the essential functions of the position and is not intended to be an exhaustive listing of all duties.

• Supervise and lead multi-site teams in maintaining District safety, security, and crisis intervention efforts.

• Lead the development, execution, and continuous improvement of large-scale safety training for district staff and partners.

• Manage the design, program development, and formal documentation of safety policies, standard operating procedures, and risk management guidelines.

• Lead the training, coaching, mentoring, and professional development of Student Safety Coaches;

• Manage the Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI), and related training

• Collaborate with special education and student supports department for Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI), and related training;

• Lead critical incident and restrictive procedure data collection. Assists staff in analyzing and interpreting data to provide an objective assessment of the effectiveness of individual student and program interventions

• Promote equitable student safety, behavior-response practices, and learning outcomes for all students;

• Support using evidence-based social emotional learning practices in addressing student needs through use of community building, restorative practices, and other strategies;

• Assist in planning, organizing, and implementing staff development and training on safety and security best practices, including the effective management of safety policies, programs, and procedures designed to enhance building safety efforts and minimize staff injuries;

• Collaborate with the work of strategic planning teams to ensure site-based health and safety practices align with the strategic plan; manage site fire drills, lockdown drills and provide feedback; recommend improvements to site administrators and executive directors;

• Active participant in Restrictive Procedure Oversight Committee work;

• Provide instruction to administrators on proper methods to review and strengthen site entry protocols;

• Counsel and assist instructional, support and ancillary personnel in problem-solving activities pertaining to student behavior to determine appropriate solutions;

• Provide support to staff at 360 meetings as needed;

• Conduct safety planning and implementation of safety and crisis plans in conjunction with the District Incident Command Team;

• Perform other duties as assigned.
