Job Title: Junior High Girls Basketball Coach Reports To: Athletic Director and Building PrincipalFLSA Status: Seasonal/ExemptPosition Type: Extra-Curricular / Coaching Position Summary: The Junior High Girls Basketball Coach is responsible for leading, instructing, and mentoring student-athletes in the basketball program. The coach promotes skill development, teamwork, sportsmanship, and academic success while ensuring compliance with school, district, and athletic association policies. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Plan, organize, and supervise all practices, games, and team activities.
• Teach fundamental basketball skills, techniques, and strategies appropriate for junior high athletes.
• Foster a positive, safe, and inclusive team environment that emphasizes respect, effort, and discipline.
• Communicate effectively with players, parents, athletic director, and other staff members.
• Ensure the proper care, maintenance, and inventory of all basketball equipment and uniforms.
• Monitor academic eligibility and encourage student-athletes to perform well in school.
• Uphold all district, conference, and state athletic association rules and policies.
• Coordinate with other coaches and staff to support the overall athletic program.
• Serve as a role model, demonstrating professionalism, integrity, and sportsmanship at all times.
Qualifications:
• Previous basketball coaching or playing experience preferred.
• Knowledge of basketball rules, techniques, and safety procedures.
• Ability to motivate and effectively communicate with junior high students.
• Must meet all district and state coaching certification requirements (e.g., CPR/First Aid, concussion training, background check, small vehicle activity driver training).
• Strong organizational and leadership skills.
Work Schedule:
• Seasonal position during the girls' basketball season (December-February).
• Practices and games occur after school hours, with occasional weekend commitments.
Compensation:
• Stipend position as determined by the district's extra-duty pay schedule.
