SCHOOL DISTRICT OF DESOTO COUNTY CUSTODIAN, HEAD JOB DESCRIPTION QUALIFICATIONS:
• High school diploma or equivalent. • Three (3) years successful custodial experience. • Satisfactory criminal background check and drug screening. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requirements related to assignment. Knowledge of custodial procedures and equipment. Ability to communicate orally and in writing. Ability to work harmoniously with custodial staff. Ability to communicate effectively with faculty, students, parents, visitors and subordinates. Ability to organize and establish priorities. Ability to maintain records and reports. Knowledge of supervisory techniques. Ability to train new employees in proper custodial procedures and equipment. Ability to perform minor repairs to equipment, building and grounds. REPORTS TO: Coordinator of Custodial Services JOB GOAL To provide care, maintenance, cleanliness and safety of the school plant and grounds for the students and staff at a school. SUPERVISES: School-based custodial staff along with the Coordinator of Custodial Services PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Service Delivery
• Perform routine maintenance, custodial and grounds services for safety and appearance including operation and care of equipment. • Assist immediate supervisor in identifying needs relating to custodial, maintenance and safety issues. • Provide for the opening and/or securing of the facility as assigned. • Assist with lifting or moving heavy objects. • Supervise the distribution and use of custodial supplies. • Assist the custodial staff in utilizing the most effective cleaning techniques. • Assist in the preparation and revision of work schedules to ensure equity of workloads and complete building coverage. • Comply with local laws and procedures for the storage of flammable materials and disposal of trash. • Inspect offices, meeting rooms, classrooms, hallways and restrooms for cleanliness and proper maintenance. • Serve as shipping and receiving agent for school materials, supplies and equipment. • Assist with grounds maintenance as required. • Work extra hours or on a flexible schedule if required. • Assist in training custodial employees. • Provide input related to evaluations of custodial employees. Perform other tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of this position. *Essential Performance Responsibilities PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 20 pounds of force as needed to move objects. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the district's approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the district. COMPENSATION: Compensation for this position is Pay Lane D04 EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of personnel.
