The Special Needs Nursing Service (SNNS) supports children and young people with complex health needs in specialist schools and community settings, working with families, schools and healthcare professionals to provide high-quality care.
We are seeking a compassionate, motivated and enthusiastic Band 2 Nursing Assistant to join our term-time-only team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop a career in children's nursing while making a positive difference to children, young people and their families.
This development post offers a structured pathway from Band 2 to Band 3. The successful applicant will complete the Trust's Clinical Support Worker Development Programme and, on successful completion of the required competencies, will progress to Band 3 Agenda for Change (AfC
Main duties of the job
The Special Needs Nursing Service (SNNS) provides care and support to children and young people with complex healthcare needs in specialist schools and community settings across Manchester.
The role involves supporting children and young people's health, wellbeing and care needs, working alongside registered nurses and the multidisciplinary team to deliver safe, effective, person-centred care. You will undertake delegated clinical and non-clinical tasks within your competence, maintain accurate electronic records, communicate effectively with families, carers, schools and healthcare professionals, and contribute to safeguarding by recognising and reporting concerns.
You will work independently when appropriate, seeking guidance when required, participate in training, supervision and team meetings, and demonstrate flexibility to meet service needs across different settings. You will promote a positive experience for children and families while maintaining professionalism, confidentiality and the Trust's values.
Applicants should be motivated, compassionate and adaptable, able to travel across Manchester, and hold a full UK driving licence with access to a vehicle for work.

Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check

What is a DBS Check?
A DBS check is a background check that reveals any criminal convictions, cautions, reprimands, or warnings. The level of check required depends on the role:
Standard DBS: Checks for spent and unspent convictions, cautions, reprimands, and final warnings.
Enhanced DBS: Includes the above, plus any additional information held by local police thats considered relevant to the role.
Enhanced with Barred Lists: Includes all of the above, plus checks against the childrens and/or adults barred lists.
Who Needs a DBS Check
Most roles involving direct patient contact, working with children or vulnerable adults, or access to sensitive information will require a DBS check. The job advert and recruitment team will let you know if this applies to your role.
The Costs for a DBS
At Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT), roles that require a DBS check are subject to a cost recovery policy. This means that the cost of submitting and processing a DBS application if you are successful and join us, will be deducted from your salary within the first three months of employment. If, however, you withdraw from a conditional offer after the DBS process has begun, you will still be liable for the cost incurred.

Person Specification
Qualification Essential
Holds National Care Certificate or be willing to undertake and complete within 12 weeks of starting. Level 2 Apprenticeship in health care OR Gain equivalent knowledge and skill undertaking the Trust Clinical Support Worker Development Programme Holds Functional Skills Level 1 Maths and English or education equivalent.
Knowledge and Experience Essential
Experience working in a healthcare, social care organisation/setting or service industry requiring people contact
Desirable
Working in an environment caring for children and young people e.g. hospital, nursery or school. Knowledge of safeguarding procedures.
