Job summary
Exciting opportunity to work on our inpatient Renal & Urology Ward. We are a busy unit with both short and long term patients covering a variety of age groups.
Main duties of the job
Welcome patients and families to the department. Maintain a safe working environment. Maintain toys and equipment - ensuring Trust Infection Control and cleaning policies are adhered to. Ensure that all children and young people have appropriate access to general/normalising play, recreation activities and leisure time during their time at Birmingham Women's and Children's Hospital. Ensuring children and young people have access to normalising and general play and recreation to help reduce anxiety/fear of a familiar/unfamiliar environment.

QUALIFICATIONS Essential
NVQ level 2 in Child Health and Social Care or equivalent 5 GCSE's A-C grade including English and Maths
Desirable
NVQ Level 3 In Child Health and Social Care or willingness to undertake Making Every Contact Count (MECC) training or willingness to undertake
KNOWLEDGE & NATURE OF EXPERIENCE Essential
Previous relevant experience, especially in the care of children/young people aged 0-19 years Knowledge of issues relating to consent and confidentiality. Knowledge and understanding of issues relating to safeguarding and cultural and diversity awareness. Knowledge of the importance of play and how development can affect this Knowledge and understanding of issues relating to safe guarding and cultural and diversity awareness

Knowledge/experience working with children/young people with additional needs - Autism, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Learning Disability
