Job summary
The role of the Sexual Health Nurse within Sexual Health Wirral is to provide a comprehensive sexual health service including provision of contraceptive health services, screening/treatment/highly specialist health education /partner notification /and prevention of the spread of Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI) & HIV
Main duties of the job
As an autonomous practitioner undertake independent consultations with patients, including assessing, monitoring, evaluation, and a comprehensive health education package for individual patient's sexual health and contraceptive needs.
Provide STI screening and treatment according to patient group directions and clinical protocols.
To be responsible for partner notification via provider/index referral methods.
To be responsible to deal professionally with highly complex individual problems relating to patients sexual health condition by referrals to multidisciplinary agencies e.g harm reduction service / social worker / Sahir House / Dietician .
To undertake near patient screening for HIV
To relay evidence based diagnosis to HIV positive patients and deliver a community support.
Responsible for adherence to specific code of confidentiality peculiar to GUM services /NHS Trusts and Primary Care Trusts (Sexually Transmitted Diseases) Directions 2000, and Trust guidelines/Caldicott, and to maintain patients confidentiality, privacy and dignity in a non-judgmental approach due to the related stigma of contraceptive and sexual health issues.
To be responsible to attend all Trust Annual Mandatory training and adhere to all Trust policies.
To deliver formal/informal presentations to other agencies involved with Sexual Health matters.

Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
Registered General Nurse Degree or equivalent experience Contraception and reproductive health module (ENB 901/R71 or equivalent post registration diploma/degree level module)
Desirable
Teaching/Assessors Qualification Independent prescribing qualification i.e. V300
Experience Essential
Recent experience within Contraception and Sexual Health or GUM Clinics Recent experience and knowledge of Fraser guidelines/child protection and vulnerable adults issues/safeguarding/child sexual exploitation/FGM Recent experience of complex partner notification management of patient results
Skills Essential
STI Screening Recognised cytology training and competent to perform cervical cytology Accreditation for fitting/removal of sub dermal implants or working towards STIF Course -Foundation/advanced level Leadership Skills Standard computer skills and experience of using an Electronic Patient Record (EPR)
Desirable
Recognised IUD/IUS training and competent to perform IUD/IUS insertion and removal In depth knowledge of:- o Research o Audit o BASHH/BHIVA Guidelines o Participation in health promotion strategies
