An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Chorley Hospital inpatient mental health services as a Trainee Healthcare Support Worker (HCSW).
This development role is designed for individuals aged18 and over who are committed to delivering high-quality patient care and wish to build a career within mental health services.
No previous healthcare experience is required. We are seeking individuals with the right values, motivation, and willingness to learn.
Part-time applications will be considered for candidates wishing to work no fewer than 22.5 hours per week. If you would like to be considered on a part-time basis, please clearly state this within your application.
You will be supported through a structured induction, training programme, and competency framework to develop the skills required to work as a Healthcare Support Worker within a multidisciplinary team.
This is a development post. You will be required to complete a structured competency programme whilst being supported by experienced staff.
On successful completion of the training programme, support will be provided to apply for Band 3 Healthcare Support Worker roles, subject to vacancy availability and successful recruitment through the usual Trust processes.
Main duties of the job

Working under the supervision of a registered healthcare professional, you will:
Provide direct care and support to patients, including assistance with activities of daily living Develop therapeutic relationships that promote recovery and independence Support patients to engage in meaningful and social activities Monitor and report changes in patients' mental and physical health Contribute to maintaining a safe, clean, and therapeutic ward environment

Education Essential
A willingness to complete the Nationally Mandated Care Certificate, LSCFTs HCSW Development Training and the competency framework within the initial 6 month period of employment.
Knowledge Essential
Awareness of Health & Safety issues Ability to recognise scope of designated role/responsibilities and work within this.
Experience Essential
Evidence of former healthcare experience OR ability to evidence transferrable skills that directly support the duties/ responsibilities for this role e.g. caring for a family member/ children
Skills Essential
Demonstrable skills in written and spoken English, adequate to enable the post holder to carry out the role effectively. Good observation skills. Ability to work under instruction. Good skills in attentive listening, reinforced by personal qualities of being genuine, non-judgemental and respectful, and with the ability to demonstrate warmth and empathy towards patients in the provision of care.
Work Related Essential
Ability to work flexibly when required including moving to alternative clinical areas. Level of fitness adequate to undertake a course in mandatory moving and handling and Positive and Safe de-escalation & Restraint training Ability to work required shifts including days, nights, weekends and bank holidays Willingness and consent to apply for an Enhanced DBS Disclosure.
