Oakhaven Hospice is seeking a dedicated Ward Sister/Charge Nurse to lead our Inpatient Unit and play a key role in supporting patients and their families through some of life's most challenging times.
Main duties of the job
As Ward Sister/Charge Nurse, you will be responsible for the day-to-day leadership and management of the Inpatient Unit, ensuring the highest standards of clinical care are maintained at all times.
Key responsibilities include:
Leading, supporting and inspiring the nursing team, acting as a positive role model and fostering a collaborative working environment. Providing effective clinical and operational leadership within the Inpatient Unit. Supervising and supporting nursing staff to ensure safe, evidence-based practice and continuous professional development. Communicating sensitively and compassionately with patients, families and carers regarding complex and end-of-life care needs. Working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team and external healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality, coordinated patient care. Promoting a culture of excellence, innovation and continuous improvement within the service. Participating in the senior nurse on-call rota and providing out-of-hours leadership and support when required.

Salary£41,710.50pa - £43,387.50pa (Depending on experience)
Hours37.5 hours per week. Shifts will include days, nights, weekends and bank holidays, worked on a rotational basis and communicated in advance via a rota.
On-Call RequirementParticipation in the Hospices senior nurse on call rota is required. This will involve providing out -of- hours clinical leadership, support and advice as necessary. On exceptional occasions, the postholder may be required to attend to support the inpatient Unit in unforeseen staffing emergences.

To be successful in this role, you will have:
Registered General Nurse (RGN) qualification with current NMC registration. A minimum of two years' experience working within palliative care, hospice care or a related specialist setting. Demonstrable leadership and management experience within a clinical environment. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to support patients, families and colleagues through emotionally challenging situations. Strong clinical decision-making skills and the ability to manage complex care needs. A compassionate, professional and resilient approach that reflects the values and ethos of Oakhaven Hospice. Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
RGN - With at least 2 years post qualification experience. Evidence of commitment to professional development
Desirable
Diploma/Degree level qualification in Palliative Care
Skills and Knowledge Essential
Able to plan and assess changing function and needs. Able to discuss difficult end of life issues with patients and their families Excellent written and verbal communication ability Good knowledge of symptom management in palliative care Ability to effectively present patients at MDT and contribute meaningfully to MDT discussions
