About this role
Job summary The Theatre Support Worker plays a vital role in supporting the safe and efficient delivery of surgical services. Working as part of the multidisciplinary theatre team, the post holder is responsible for preparing theatres areas, maintaining equipment and stock, assisting with patient transfers, and ensuring a clean and safe environment in line with infection prevention standards. The role support clinicians in delivering high-quality patient care, contributes to smooth theatre flow, and helps maximise theatre efficiency while ensuring patients receive safe, compassionate, and dignified care throughout their surgical journey.
Main duties of the job
Support the multidisciplinary theatre team in the safe and efficient delivery of perioperative care.
Prepare operating theatres before and between procedures, ensuring all equipment, instruments, and consumables are available and ready for use.
Assist with the safe transfer, positioning, and movement of patients in accordance with manual handling policies.
Clean and decontaminate theatre areas and equipment in line with infection prevention and control standards.
Maintain stock levels and ensure theatre supplies are replenished.
Collect, transport, and dispose of clinical waste, linen, specimens, and equipment safely.
Assist with setting up and clearing theatre rooms to minimise delays and maximise theatre utilisation.
Report equipment faults, maintenance issues, or health and safety concerns promptly.
Maintain accurate records where required and comply with Trust policies and procedures.
Provide compassionate, respectful, and dignified support to patients while maintaining confidentiality at all times.
Work flexibly as part of the theatre team to support both elective and emergency surgical services.

No formal qualifications are essential.
Desirable
GCSE in English and Maths. Care Certificate NVQ level 2 in Health and Social Care or equivalent
Experience Essential
No previous theatre experience is essential. Experience of working as part of a team. Experience of following instructions and working to policies and procedures. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Desirable
Previous experience in a healthcare, care, or hospital environment. Experience of working in an operating theatre or clinical setting.
