About this role

Job summary

This role shapes and leads a portfolio of income generating improvement work, through which we secure most funding and positive impacts for the community.

This role brings a range of design, collaboration, insight, systems change and improvement approaches to shape services in agreed areas, including supporting improvement in equity, diversity and inclusion in health care. The post will have a strong understanding of sector needs, competitors, and the opportunity space for Qs services,

advocating for Q and The NHS Alliance. The role will work collaboratively to scope and secure new business.

This role will establish, lead, coach and oversee teams and associates to deliver Qs services. It will hold important funder relationships, directly deliver complex commissioned work and cultivate a strong network of trusted, strategic relationships internally and externally.

Main duties of the job

As Head of Collaborative Improvement Services you will:

Lead the design and delivery of Qs portfolio of commissioned projects working across service design, systems change and improvement approaches to address complex health and care challengesIdentify new opportunities to grow Qs services portfolio through building partnerships, scoping products and services to secure fundingBuild and develop project teams bringing together services, associates and partners to deliver high quality workPromote Qs services and learning through events, publications and thought leadership leading the development of high quality tools insights and practical resources that support collaborative improvement across health and care

Support the development and implementation of a Qs portfolio of collaborative improvement services. Scope potential income generating activities, develop products to market and respond to tenders and other opportunities, securing business and building strong funder relationships.Bring advanced expertise in key fields of design, collaboration and systems improvement, alongside a broad understanding of relevant fields to act as a professional face and lead for our work.Provide inspiring leadership to the services team, building and leading teams to deliver complex and ambitious commissioned activities, working across the Q team, NHS Alliance and external delivery partners. Support services team members to deliver work effectively and within agreed budgets. Ensure appropriate evaluative learning and insights are surfaced and acted on.Promote Qs services and learning through events and written outputs. Lead or oversee the development of high-quality tools, insights, and other outputs to support collaborative improvement.Ensure Qs services support equitable, diverse and inclusive improvements to health and care services. Ensure Qs commitment to equality, diversity and inclusivity is embedded and progressed through the content and conduct of all work.Undertake effective line management of 2 or more posts in the Services team including recruitment, performance management and employee development in line with the organisations Human Resources policies and procedures. You will establish and sometimes oversee cross-functional teams drawn from across the organisation.Regularly deputise for the Director of Improvement and Head of Improvement Services, including as part of Qs leadership team.

Person Specification

Experience Essential

Deep expertise in either service design, systems thinking and/ or improvement approaches, combined with a credible overview of the breadth of collaboration, improvement, learning and systems change approaches.

Strong partnership building experience.

Flexible experience securing funding and other support from organisations. Ability to identify, create and convert commercial opportunities.

Strong experience building and leading project teams that span multiple disciplines and organisations.

Consultancy skills and experience, ideally in relevant fields.

Flexible and creative analytical skills, with the ability to rapidly understand and synthesize material in complex and unfamiliar fields.

Advanced programme design and delivery experience, including with innovative, cross-functional, large budget, multi-year initiatives.

Understanding and commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion including in relation to team leadership and service delivery.

Strong event and process design and facilitation expertise. Able to lead processes that are inclusive and credible with a range of audiences, including very senior staff in the public and commercial sector.

Desirable

Specialist expertise in methods used to address inequities and enable improvement in relation to diversity and inclusion in the health sector.

In depth understanding of how the health sector works, including the organisations, culture and practices most relevant to efforts to improve health care

Established understanding and experience of improvement and systems change programme evaluation approaches.

Established networks and credibility relevant to Qs and NHS Alliances work.
