Job summary
You will maintain high levels of cleanliness throughout the Practice in line with NHS National Standards of Healthcare Cleanliness and Health and Safety legislation. You will adhere to the appropriate COSHH requirements and work inside the Safety, Health and Environmental aspects of Practice Policy.
You may be required to work flexibly across the main site and branch surgery (Daneshouse) of Thursby Surgery where required.
Main duties of the job
Deliver the highest standards of cleaning service at all times observing work schedules and the NHS National Standards of Healthcare Cleanliness 2021
To deliver good principles of customer care ensuring helpfulness, awareness and compassion to patients, visitors, staff and colleagues
Ensure that infection control guidelines are followed.
Adhere to the National Colour Coding Scheme.
Adhere to COSHH Guidance.
Emptying waste bins and refuse containers, bagging refuse according to waste disposal policy.
Ensure supplies of paper hand towels, soap, toilet paper, kitchen rolls are maintained.
Clean or dust control mop all hard floors.
Cleaning of all sanitary areas, washbasins, sinks (clean and dirty)
High dusting all ledges, surfaces and pipes
Cleaning interiors of cupboards.
Dealing with emergencies as they occur spillage, floods, blood, vomit, urine, etc.
Check and clean refrigerator discard out of date food.
Ensure all waste streams are segregated and disposed of in accordance with legislation.
Ensure all cleaning responsibilities are followed in accordance with daily, weekly and deep cleaning schedule in all risk areas as per the Cleanliness Charters.
Work co-operatively with colleagues as part of the team and perform additional duties as and when directed.
Clean and maintain all domestic equipment.
Support the curtain changing programme.
Any other roles and responsibilities deemed necessary.

Thursby Surgery is based on two sites approximately 1 mile apart and our clinical team currently includes GPs, Advanced Nurses Practitioners, a Practice Pharmacy Technician, Practice Paramedic, Practice Nurses, Nurse Degree Apprentices, GPS's, Trainee Nurse Associate and Phlebotomists. There is a strong team atmosphere and a focus on continuous development throughout the surgery.
We work as part of a Primary Care Network which provides health care for a population of 60k, we have developed close relationships with the Community and voluntary sector providers and we hold regular MDT meetings that are at the heart of collaborative working.

Cleaning interiors of cupboards.
Dealing with emergencies as they occur spillage, floods, blood, vomit, urine, etc.

Risk Management
Manage and assess risk within the areas of responsibility, ensuring adequate measures are in place to protect staff and patients and public including ensuring they are safe and free from hazards and conform to health, safety and security policies, procedures and guidelines.
Understand and apply legal policy that supports the identification of vulnerable and abused children and adults, being aware of statutory child/vulnerable adult health procedure and local guidance.
Maintain confidentiality, data protection, access to records and information governance procedures, seeking advice from Caldicott and Information Governance Leads, and ensuring all training is up to date.
The post-holder is required to travel independently between practice sites and to attend meetings etc hosted by other agencies.
Administrative and Professional Responsibility
To ensure all Cleaning specification Audits are completed daily for each room/area as per their Functional Risk.
To ensure completion of all necessary documentation associated with patient healthcare.
Ensure collection and maintenance of statistical information required for reports.
Attend and participate in practice meetings as required
To participate in audits as requested initiate audits where approved.
To be aware of and adhere to all Company Policies, procedures and guidelines when undertaking any activity
Ensure strict confidentiality is applied to all patients and staff ensuring need to know basis is applied at all times
Research, Education and Training
Maintain continued education by attendance of courses and study as deemed useful or necessary
Identify and support practice development plans
The post holder should acknowledge any limitations of his/her competence, not accepting responsibility for work outside the scope of the role
To maintain competencies relevant to the role and identify personal development needs and plan with the nurse manager on how these can be achieved
To acquire, maintain and improve knowledge and skills required to competently perform all agreed healthcare activities. This involves undertaking in-house and mandatory training as agreed by the Clinical Lead and Practice Manager.
To attend team meeting in order to keep updated on developments within the department.

Communication and Interpersonal Skills Essential

Experience Essential
Previous experience of working in a Healthcare Setting Working knowledge and experience of NHS National Standards of Healthcare Cleanliness Knowledge of COSHH using chemicals safely Ability to work on your own or in a team on a regular basis without direct supervision
Skills and Ability Essential
Daily requirement for maneuvering equipment including cleaning trollies. Requirement to maneuver furniture including patient chairs and couches. Ability to change curtains Able to demonstrate an understanding of Manual Handling techniques and be physically able to move loads of up to 10kg.
Desirable
The post holder can make decisions as to the order of work at their own discretion.
Qualifications Essential
NVQ Level 1 in Cleaning Building Interiors or equivalent Ability to maintain high levels of cleanliness in a commercial environment Knowledge and understanding of Infection Control Policy, Guidelines and Procedures Knowledge and experience of working within strict Health and Safety Policies and Procedures.
