Job SummaryThis position supports the clinical and administrative components of the Cardiac Catheterization and Electrophysiology Labs by performing additional duties such as inventory management, staff scheduling, and/or assignments; staff and student training and mentoring; quality improvement program initiatives; scrubbing, circulating, monitoring, and other duties that support the immediate and ongoing needs of the department.

Basic Requirements: Citizenship. Citizenship of the United States. There are no specific educational requirements for this occupation. Education may be substituted for experience only at the GS-4 and GS-5 levels. Licensure or Certification is not required for this occupation; however, it is strongly desirable at GS-6 or above as evidence of possession of the essential knowledge, skills, and abilities. For certain functional areas at the higher levels or supervisory assignments, specific certifications appropriate to the specialty are indicated in this standard under "Titles and Certification/Registrations". English Language Proficiency. Candidates must be proficient in spoken and written English to be appointed as authorized by 38 U.S.C. 7403(f). Grade Determinations: GS-9 Experience. At least 1 year of experience comparable to the next lower grade level, which is directly related to the duties of the position to be filled, and must fully meet the KSAs at that level. This would be experience that demonstrates possession of the knowledge required in order to provide all aspects of cardiac catheterization technician services. ??????? Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 1. Knowledge of the more complex examination and treatment procedures and techniques in order to provide training and supervision in these procedures, to evaluate and initiate performance improvement projects, and to write policies, procedures, and protocols, that pertain to the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory. 2. Knowledge of JCAHO and other regulatory requirements. 3. Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with employees at varying grade levels. 4. Ability to provide, or provide for, staff development and training. Preferred Experience: Registration by Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) as a registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) is highly desirable. Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications are also desirable for employees at this level. Major DutiesTotal Rewards of a Allied Health Professional The incumbent is skilled to assist with diagnostic and advanced special procedure radiographic procedures in cardiac catheterization, electrophysiology, and hybrid suites. The incumbent is skilled and experienced in performing the following list of procedures that are performed: Percutaneous coronary interventions (including robotic-assisted), Coronary stent placements Coronary atherectomy, coronary flow evaluation, Valvuloplasty, Swan-Ganz catheter placement Pericardiocentesis Temporary Pacemakers (highly acute patients) CTO: Chronic Total Obstruction procedures Advanced knowledge of fluoroscopic imaging and the use of equipment Intravascular coronary ultrasound, ventriculography The incumbent must also have experience with specialized equipment for procedures that are performed in the cardiac catheterization lab and electrophysiology lab. The incumbent is responsible for providing care as a member of the Cardiac Catheterization On-Call Team. A 30-minute response time is required as a member of the On-Call Team. The incumbent will participate in all in-service programs and complete 24 CEU's within the biennium reporting period to maintain the CVT licensure as mandated by RCIS (if applicable). Meets the needs of customers while supporting VA missions. Consistently communicates and treats customers (veterans, their representatives, visitors, and all VA staff) in a courteous, tactful, and respectful manner. Provides customers with consistent information according to established policies and procedures. Handles conflict and problems in dealing with the customer constructively and appropriately. Work Schedule: Full-time, Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., alternating call schedule, must be able to to report within 30 minutes of notification to report when on call. Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).
