PROBATIONARY PERIOD: As a condition of employment for accepting this position, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period during which your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest will be evaluated. Experience must be demonstrated in at least TWO of the following trades: Carpentry (constructs, installs, repairs and replace items such as doors, shelves, etc.); Painting (preparing surfaces, determine painting materials to be used and method of application, and painting a variety of surfaces); Plumbing (replace various valves, unions, elbows, fixtures, toilets, faucets and various types of pipe and copper lines, cut and thread pipes, winterize water systems, etc.); Roofing (repairs and patching, tar and paper, metal foam roofs and asphalt shingles); Electrical (repairs including removing, replacing, tightening, splicing, and insulating defective wiring and fixtures; Cement Finishing (building and setting forms for sidewalks and steps, mixes pours, spreads, and levels cement and concrete in preparation for final finishing; Masonry (maintenance, measures, determines amount of concrete, sets forms, pours and finishes concrete to blueprint standards and project specifications); 2. Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic). 3. Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (includes blueprint reading). 4. Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment. 5. Major DutiesThese WG-4749-07 Maintenance Worker positions are Career-Seasonal appointments which are permanent positions that include the same benefits as Career (year-round) appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. For both locations, you can expect to be in a non-pay status for a maximum of one pay period (2 weeks) each year. Flagstaff Area National Monuments have non-pay between early November to early December and Lewis & Clark National Historical Park has non-pay scheduled between early February to late February. Maintenance Workers are part of the Facility Maintenance Division. The primary purpose of these positions is to perform recurring building and/or utility maintenance and operation duties and to assist journeymen and other higher-graded maintenance workers. Incumbents utilize knowledge and skills in several trades and crafts. MAJOR DUTIES: Carpentry Painting Plumbing Roofing Electrical Cement Finishing Masonry At the Lewis & Clark National Historical Park location, selectee will also perform a wide range of trail maintenance and construction tasks using hand and power tools to maintain safe and accessible park trails. Physical Effort: Physical effort is heavy to moderate, and requires occasional lifting or handling of objects or materials up to 50 pounds, unassisted, following proper lifting procedures to avoid injury. Frequently required to stand while working, climb ladders or scaffolding, and bend, stoop, climb, and work in awkward positions. Working Conditions: Exposed to a variety of seasonal weather conditions while working outdoors (temperatures -40 to 90+ degrees). Subject to danger of falling from ladders or scaffolding. Exposed to dust, dirt, wind, and rain. May work with dangerous chemicals and around moving equipment; paints, solvents, etc. May be exposed to electrical shocks, and biting insects.RequirementsU.S. Citizenship required. Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication. Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males. DIRECT DEPOSIT: Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program. DRIVER'S LICENSE: You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required. You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you. You may be required to complete training and operate a four-wheel drive vehicle. HOUSING: Park/Government housing may be available at Flagstaff, AZ location only. UNIFORM: You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided. WORK SCHEDULE: Depending on location, you may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or overtime. TRAVEL: You may be required to travel occasionally. Overnight away from home is rare, normally for training purposes. You may be required to obtain a government charge card for travel purposes. Applicants must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program.
