QualificationsAlthough a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to do the work of a PIPEFITTER without more than normal supervision performing: 1) Troubleshoot and test piping systems and equipment for proper circulation, flow, pressure and leak free joints; 2) Plan and layout installation, modification, and repair of various new and existing piping systems and equipment including various kinds of piping, risers, and flexible branches at the proper level and incline; and 3) Operate various hand and power tools and devices (e.g., hand and power pipe threaders and cutters, flanges, pipe wrenches, grinders, templates, sliding squares, measuring tapes, chalk lines, plumb bobs, etc.). Major DutiesYou will install, modify, repair new/existing high-pressure piping systems and equipment; steam-heating, steam generation, and hydraulic systems, steam generators, flash and expansion tanks, condensate, vacuum, circulating pumps, and radiators.You will remove, clean, replace, pack, and seal defective parts of utility, supply, and disposal systems such as traps, sections of broken tile pipe, sewer lines, and leaking drains.You will install, maintain, and repair a variety of heating and air conditioning units to include oil lines, air lines, water lines, steam lines, valves, pipes, flexible hose connections, or other related parts.You will trace system malfunctions and replace fixtures such as safety devices, heating elements, valves, strainers, coils, and other related minor controls.
