About this role
The Workers Compensation Staff Attorney provides legal defense to policyholders and supports NJM’s Workers Compensation Claims Department.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: .
• Protect the interest of NJM policyholders in litigated workers’ compensation matters through the point of settlement or decision • Work with staff in the preparation of pleadings, motions, briefs and other documents • Provide case status updates, recommendations, and legal guidance to policyholders and Workers’ Compensation Claims staff • Build and maintain relationships with internal and external customers • Work collaboratively with other enterprise stakeholders in the defense of Workers’ Compensation claims • Handle complex litigation and develop litigation strategies in collaboration with policyholders • Perform other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
• Critical thinking skills and attention to detail • Ability to work independently • Strong negotiation, communication and writing skills • Ability to problem-solve and make decisions • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines • Strong relationship-building skills and a commitment to customer service • Computer skills, including Microsoft Office and Outlook • Workers Compensation experience, including multiple jurisdictions • Juris Doctor degree • License to practice law in the state of New Jersey
Preferred Qualifications:
• 3 or more years of experience
Compensation: Salary is commensurate with experience and credentials. Pay Range: $102,745-$116,255 Eligible full-time employees receive a competitive Total Rewards package, including but not limited to a 401(k) with employer match up to 8% and additional service-based contributions, Health, Dental, and Vision insurance, Life and Disability coverage, generous PTO, Paid Sick Leave, and paid parental leave in addition to state-mandated leave. Employees may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses.
