Join Maxis as a Data Engineer Intern, where you will gain hands-on experience in supporting cybersecurity and vulnerability management through data engineering, automation, and analytics. This role offers exposure to real-world security datasets, configuration management databases (CMDB), and risk assessment workflows while working closely with cybersecurity and network operations teams in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities 1. Vulnerability & Asset Data Analysis
• Query and analyse vulnerability scan results from tools such as Tenable.
• Extract and review Configuration Item (CI) inventory data from the CMDB.
• Perform automated reconciliation between vulnerability data and CMDB records.
2. Data Reconciliation & Quality Assessment
• Identify and document discrepancies between vulnerability findings and CMDB assets.
• Classify mismatches based on data accuracy, asset criticality, and completeness.
• Support continuous improvement of data integrity across security systems.
3. Risk Assessment & Criticality Analysis
• Assist in identifying:
• Critical risks: Production assets with Critical/High vulnerabilities and missing CMDB records.
• High risks: Mismatched asset criticality affecting SLA compliance.
• Medium risks: Outdated or incomplete CMDB attributes.
• Low risks: Minor metadata inconsistencies.
• Support trend analysis to identify recurring patterns in data misalignment and criticality issues.
4. Automation & Generative AI Support
• Support the use of Gemini Generative AI for:
• Natural language queries for operations reporting.
• Automated reporting and insights generation.
• Assist in remediation action workflows by translating findings into actionable outputs.
5. Documentation, Reporting & Insights
• Maintain documentation, dashboards, and analytical reports.
• Support stakeholders with data-driven insights for vulnerability management and risk prioritisation.
Value-Added Project Automate Internal Vulnerability Signature Management The intern will contribute to a value-added project focused on automating internal vulnerability signature management to improve data accuracy, reduce manual effort, and strengthen the organisation’s overall security posture.
Preferred Skills / Qualifications
• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, Cybersecurity, or a related field.
• Strong skills in Python and SQL scripting.
• Basic understanding of:
• Databases and data pipelines
• Vulnerability management and cybersecurity concepts (an advantage)
• Ability to analyse large datasets and identify patterns or anomalies.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills.
• Proactive, structured, and eager to learn in a technical environment.
• Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
