About this role

Are you passionate about research? So are we! Come and join us The Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) is a Research and Technology Organization (RTO) active in the fields of materials, environment and IT. By transforming scientific knowledge into technologies, smart data and tools, LIST empowers citizens in their choices, public authorities in their decisions and businesses in their strategies. Do you want to know more about LIST? Check our website: https://www.list.lu / How will you contribute? The AI Readiness and Assessment (AIRA) research group at LIST is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to lead technical service delivery for the Luxembourg Digital Innovation Hub (L-DIH 2.0). Operating at the intersection of process systems engineering, data-driven modeling, and applied AI, this position focuses heavily on conducting advanced data evaluations and hands-on technology testing for SMEs in Luxembourg across six economic sectors: manufacturing, transport & logistics, construction & craftsmanship, skilled crafts, wholesale & retail trade, and the hospitality sector. Additionally, the researcher will transfer this field's expertise directly to the ecosystem by designing and delivering specialized technical training modules. The ideal candidate is a practical innovator, comfortable operating at the interface between academic research and industry. • Deliver Data Readiness Assessments & Roadmaps: Evaluate SME data availability, quality, interoperability, and data infrastructure maturity across critical business and operational processes. Translate these findings from an engineering perspective into a prioritized roadmap. • Execute Agentic AI-Driven Technology Testing & EDA: Lead short, hypothesis-driven prototyping and exploratory data analysis (EDA) using real or representative industrial datasets. Evaluate and deploy modern AI technologies, including LLM-based assistants, agentic workflows and automation pipelines where appropriate. Particularly for data-readiness, make use of agentic approaches for the identification of physical constraints and data-quality bottlenecks, delivering rapid, evidence-based feasibility assessments that reduce technical investment risks for client companies. • Hybrid & Data-Driven Modeling: Apply machine learning and hybrid physics-AI approaches to model industrial systems, accounting for physical constraints, sensor noise, and heterogeneous datasets. • Support Customer Journey: Formulate technically grounded recommendations that help guide client companies through a coherent, frictionless transformation journey within the L-DIH consortium and onward to the Luxembourg AI Factory. • Deliver Domain-Specific Digital Trainings: Build and deliver specialized, expert-level training modules directly related to the core engineering and data principles applied in the project services to which the candidate contributed (e.g., Industrial Data Management, Sensor Fusion, or Intro to Hybrid Modeling/Digital Twins). Is Your profile described below? Are you our future colleague? Apply now! Education • Ph.D. in Computer Science, Data Science, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a closely related discipline with a definitive focus on data-driven modeling or systems optimization. Experience • 0–3 years of postdoctoral experience (or equivalent research experience) in computational, statistical, or data-driven modelling • Proven experience in data engineering and management; machine learning and data-driven modelling as well as Digital twins and hybrid physics - (agentic)AI approaches. • Experience in the industrial environment is considered an asset Hard skills • Advanced expertise in machine learning, data-driven modeling, and the deployment of digital twins or hybrid physics-AI frameworks. • Process Systems Engineering: Strong background in process design, industrial instrumentation, and automation concepts (PLC, SCADA, sensor networks). • Data Lifecycle Mastery: Proven experience manipulating heterogeneous industrial datasets, performing data lineage mapping, and identifying operational data bottlenecks. • Industry 4.0 Concepts: Thorough understanding of how smart manufacturing paradigms translate to actual factory floors. Soft skills • Ability to work effectively in interdisciplinary teams spanning computational and experimental research • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to scientific rigor and interpretability • Notions of explainability and trustworthiness in AI • Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex concepts to non-specialists • Intellectual curiosity and motivation to work on applied, impact-driven research • Ability to work independently while contributing constructively to a collaborative project environment Language skills • Fluency in English both oral and written. Other relevant languages are an asset.
