About this role
A Sushi Chef is responsible for preparing high-quality sushi and other Japanese dishes, ensuring excellent presentation, freshness, and taste. The role requires strong knife skills, attention to detail, and a deep understanding of Japanese culinary traditions.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare sushi, sashimi, nigiri, maki rolls, and specialty dishesSelect, inspect, and properly store fresh fish and seafoodMaintain high standards of food safety, hygiene, and sanitationDevelop and present dishes with precision and artistic presentationPrepare rice, sauces, and garnishes according to recipes and standardsManage inventory and assist with ordering ingredientsMaintain cleanliness of the sushi station and kitchen equipmentInteract with customers (if working at a sushi bar) and provide recommendationsEnsure consistent portioning and quality controlCollaborate with kitchen staff and restaurant management Required Skills & Qualifications
Previous experience as a sushi chef or Japanese kitchen cookStrong knife handling and fish preparation skillsKnowledge of sushi rice preparation and seasoning techniquesUnderstanding of seafood selection and handling practicesAbility to work in a fast-paced environmentExcellent attention to detail and presentation skillsFood safety certification (preferred or required depending on location)Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays Work Conditions:
