Job summary
We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated Physiotherapist or Occupational Therapist to join our Acute Stroke Team at St Peter's Hospital, Chertsey.
This role would be suited to someone looking to take the next step in their career, develop leadership and management skills, and specialise further within stroke services while building on existing therapy experience.
As part of our supportive multidisciplinary team, you will work in a fast-paced environment, providing assessment and treatment for patients following stroke and supporting the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care.
We are looking for a therapist who is adaptable, proactive, and able to think creatively to support patient flow, and ensure access to rehabilitation services across the stroke pathway.

Main duties of the job
Assess and treat patients within the acute stroke pathway. This will include managing stroke patients as outliers in other areas of the hospital including A+E.
Support and develop junior staff, students, and team members through teaching and supervision.
Contribute to team leadership, including deputising for the Band 7 Team Leads when required.
Support staff wellbeing and contribute to effective people management.
Participate in service development, quality improvement and audit.
Work as part of a close-knit supportive multidisciplinary team and provide multidisciplinary training
Develop and maintain strong links with neuro and stroke services across the pathway.
Participate in bank holiday and weekend working according to service demand.

Job description Job responsibilities
Clinical or Technical
Undertake specialist patient assessments, including those with diverse or complex presentations/multipathologies and assess patients jointly with other members of the multidisciplinary team
Use sound investigative, analytical and clinical reasoning skills, manual assessment techniques and diagnostic procedures to assess and develop treatment programmes
Devise individualised management and / or treatment plans, using a range of treatment/ management options, to include patient education and exercise and use of groupwork/ classes in other settings, also including video and telephone consultation
Formulate accurate prognoses and recommend best course of intervention, developing comprehensive, timely discharge plans, liaising with community rehabilitation teams and intermediate care teams
Evaluate patient progress, reassess and alter treatment programmes if required
Leadership or Managerial
Take responsibility for and actively record your own personal development
Ensure professional competence is maintained by participating in all CPPD opportunities and maintaining a portfolio
Participate in the appraisal scheme as an appraisee and appraiser (including for junior staff, students, or assistants)
Participate in training sessions as a recipient and facilitator
Disseminate any training received to other staff and health care professionals
Take responsibility for the supervision of Band 5 therapists on rotation, Students and Assistants
Support the Band 7team leader with the appraisals of Band 5 therapists on rotation and Assistants
Communication and Engagement
Communicate effectively with all disciplines involved in patient care, both within and outside the organisation, to ensure effective multidisciplinary working
Communicate complex and sensitive information to patients, carers and other staff including imparting unwelcome news relating to their rehabilitation potential and gaining cooperation for treatment and valid consent
Use influencing and motivational skills to encourage patients to manage their own conditions
Communicate any changes in care plan or treatment approach to other therapists as necessary
Ensure timely and effective communication with the Clinical/Therapy Leads on all professional matters
Manage frequently highly stressful, upsetting or emotional situations in an empathetic manner
Information and reporting
Regularly participate in and lead on appropriate work-related research/evaluation projects and be aware of current research relevant to the speciality
Service Improvement
Maintain the high standards of the service by contributing towards individual, team and service objectives
Achieve and maintain a high standard of clinical care using evidence-based practice, keeping up to date with clinical developments, analysing current research, discussing and implementing changes in your clinical practice and encouraging this throughout the team

Qualifications Essential
HCPC Registered Physiotherapist/Occupational Therapist BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy/Occupational Therapy or equivalent recognised Physiotherapy/Occupational Therapy qualification

Experience Essential
