About this role
The MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Cambridge (LMB) is an internationally recognised scientific research institute. We are looking to recruit a full-time Maintenance Assistant to join the Estates and Facilities team. You will support the day-to-day operation of our facilities by providing general maintenance and caretaking support across laboratory, office and animal holding environments. The role is varied and hands-on, involving general repairs, decorating, furniture assembly, shelving installation, routine plant and equipment checks, minor maintenance works and support with departmental moves or setup activities. You will work closely with Estates colleagues, contractors, scientific staff, and support teams across the site.
You will possess good practical skills with the ability to undertake a range of minor repair and maintenance tasks alongside the ability to work safely and follow health and safety procedures. You will hold a recognised qualification in building maintenance, facilities maintenance, trade skills, or be able to demonstrate relevant equivalent experience. We are looking for a self-motivated and proactive individual with strong communication skills who can work effectively as part of a team, as well as independently when required. You should be well organised, adept at managing your workload, with a flexible approach to changing priorities and excellent attention to detail. You should demonstrate basic IT skills including use of Microsoft Office applications. A salary at the higher end of the advertised scale will be offered to candidates with substantial experience.
