Term 1 and 2 (September 2026 Start)
The BA Education and BA Early Years Education tutor team are looking for a proactive and motivated Associate Lecturer to contribute to the teaching, assessment, and placement support of early childhood studies and early years practitioner modules across levels 4 to 6.
This includes undergraduate student placement support and placement visits, preparing appropriate and structured learning resources, facilitating stimulating learning activities, formative and summative marking and assessment across a range of spoken and written assignment formats, recording taught sessions, management of the VLE and other digital learning resources, potentially module leadership and supervision of undergraduate dissertations and independent studies, pastoral care, and other learning & teaching duties either independently or within a team, in line with programme needs.
It would be an advantage to have early years practitioner knowledge and experience as well as a strong conceptual and theoretical understanding of early childhood and early years. Our definition of education is that it goes beyond the classroom, to other formal and informal learning contexts throughout a person’s life.
Essential
Knowledge of Early Years practitioner frameworks (e.g. QAA Benchmark, Graduate Practitioner Competencies) Knowledge of theoretical models of early childhood and early years education Experience of, or confidence in, teaching at undergraduate level Ability to deliver research-informed teaching in an engaging and student-centred way A strong academic background Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Ability to travel throughout the region
Desirable
Early Years qualification and/or experience of working in early years settings PhD or nearing completion Knowledge of theoretical frameworks that can be applied to the study of education in the broadest sense of the work
Start date: September 2026 Contract: Associate Lecturer (hourly paid) Rate: £45.25 per hour plus holiday pay

Interview details:
Successful applicants will be invited to an interview on 13th or 14th of August, and as part of this, will be asked to prepare a 5-minute presentation on a theorist who inspired their own early years practice or conceptual understanding of early childhood.
