About this role

The role

The Department of Religion and Theology is seeking a dynamic and qualified Lecturer in Jewish Studies to cover a maternity leave position. This is a fixed term 0.7 FTE role This is a fixed term 0.7 FTE role starting on 1 Sept. 2026 through to 31st of May 2027 or the return of the current post holder.

What will you be doing?

The successful candidate will provide teaching in Jewish Studies and Philosophy of Religion along with provision of related administrative support in the Department of Religion and Theology. The successful candidate will teach widely within the department’s undergraduate units and will also supervise undergraduate dissertations and undertake other teaching and administrative duties as appropriate.

You should apply if

You should apply if you hold a PhD in Jewish Studies or a cognate discipline (or be near completion of their doctorate) and have the knowledge and expertise appropriate to teaching areas specified at mainly undergraduate levels. You should have the ability to work collaboratively with others in teaching and scholarship, to engage and enthuse students in both small and large group teaching and to provide effective academic support for students, including one to one.

Contract type: Fixed term maternity cover from 01/09/2026 to 31/05/2027 or the return of the current post holder

Work pattern: 0.7 FTE

Shift pattern: To be agreed upon appointment
