Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 3 Medical Secretary to join our welcoming and supportive Cardiology team at Queen's Hospital, Burton-on-Trent.

Medical Secretaries play a vital role in delivering an efficient and patient-focused service, supporting clinicians and helping to ensure patients receive the highest standard of care. We are seeking an enthusiastic, motivated and organised individual with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You will be able to manage a varied workload, prioritise competing demands and work effectively both independently and as part of a busy team.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who takes pride in delivering a high-quality administrative service and is committed to providing a positive experience for patients, colleagues and stakeholders alike.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of this role are:

To act as the central point of contact for the administrative service.Provide effective communication. To ensure all enquiries are effectively managed and successfully resolved within a prompt timeframe. Undertake general administrative duties. Prioritise own work schedule. Awareness and understanding of sensitive information. Ability to use a range of IT applications. Closing date of applications: 6 August 2026

An average of 1115 patients are seen in A&Es across our network every day - 3rd largest in the country. Our hospitals admit an average of 195 emergency patients daily. Last year we undertook almost 33,700 planned surgical operations in our 57 operating theatres. We are one of only 7 Trusts nationally with more than 50 operating theatres. We carry out more than 140 elective procedures each working day. Qualifications Essential

A good standard of English to GCSE (9-4 or A-C) or equivalent NVQ III in Business and Administration or equivalent knowledge and skills.

Experience & Knowledge Essential

Experience of working in an administrative / support secretary role Knowledge of a range of administrative or secretarial procedures

Skills and Ability Essential

Advanced level of IT to include Microsoft Word and Excel Evidence of working to deadlines Evidence of prioritising workload
