Industrial Designer Description - Job Summary • This role is responsible for contributing to the industrial design of physical hardware products and systems, and translating existing and novel design ideas into tangible project artifacts. The role actively implements segments of industrial design plans, and ensures that it meets the criteria, scope, budget and schedule. The role is pivotal in enhancing design engineering processes, and facilitating the adoption of innovative solutions across design teams.
Responsibilities • Designs portions of the industrial design for physical hardware products and systems based on established design principles and in accordance with design strategy, practices, and guidelines. • Translates established ideas and new designs into project artifacts, such as sketches, storyboards, prototypes, and models. • Develops and implements portions of industrial design plans, changes, specifications, and reusable design elements for new and existing products. • Assists building of solutions for recurring process issues and improvement projects within design engineering processes and facilitates new solution implementation and adoption across the design teams. • Participates in ensuring that projects meet design criteria, scope, budget, and schedule; oversees planning, design, and modifications to equipment and facility systems. • Determines the most efficient sequence of operations and workflow for maximum utilization of production facilities. • Characterizes prototypes, develops test specifications and coordinates with test/product engineering to drive product releases. • Collaborates and communicates with internal and outsourced development partners on industrial design and development. • Participates as a member of project team of other designers and internal and outsourced design and development partners to develop holistic, high quality design solutions for low to moderately complex projects, products, and services.
Education & Experience Recommended • Four-year or Graduate Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design , or any other related discipline or commensurate work experience or demonstrated competence. • Typically has 2-4 years of work experience, preferably in industrial design and development of physical hardware products and systems, or a related field or an advanced degree with little or no work experience.
