In this key operational role, you'll manage linen stock levels, coordinate deliveries, and act as the main point of contact between linen suppliers, porters, and clinical teams. You'll help maintain high standards of hygiene and service continuity, supporting patient care through efficient linen management.

Main duties of the job

Linen Stock Management

Monitor and maintain linen stock levels across hospital departments. Conduct regular stock counts and place daily/ad-hoc orders with suppliers. Ensure timely delivery and collection of linen.

Linen Distribution

Deliver clean linen and collect soiled linen according to schedule. Respond to urgent linen requests to support clinical operations.

Operational Coordination

Liaise with linen suppliers and internal teams to resolve delivery issues. Maintain accurate records of stock, deliveries, and collections.

Quality and Compliance

Inspect linen for cleanliness and quality. Handle soiled/infected linen in line with infection control protocols. Adhere to health and safety standards.

Reporting and Documentation

Maintain logs and reports on linen usage and supplier performance. Support audits and service improvement initiatives.

Customer Service

Act as the first point of contact for linen-related queries. Communicate delays or issues professionally and promptly.

Physical Requirements

Move and handle linen cages regularly. Work in a physically demanding environment with frequent walking and lifting.

Training Support

Assist in training portering staff on safe handling and infection control procedures.

Person Specification

Experience Essential

Previous experience in a distribution role Previous experience in a customer focused environment Previous experience in working as part of a team with a shared purpose

Desirable

Previous experience at a supervisory level, supervising and advising junior staff Previous NHS experience

Skills Essential

Demonstrate initiative and analytical skills when dealing with enquiries/complaints from Linen users or suppliers Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, in person) with colleagues and internal and external customers Proven ability to use Microsoft Office and related packages, including databases, spreadsheets, and inputting and updating electronic information

Desirable

Ability to demonstrate empathy, sensitivity and tact with clinical staff when they are dealing with problems regarding Linen which may be distressing or emotional

Qualifications Essential

GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Maths Educated to NVQ3 Level in Business Administration or Similar/Equivalent Computer literate in the use of MS software packages

Desirable

Theoretical Knowledge and be up to date with current legislation in the provision of linen for NHS
