Shape lives through skilled craftsmanship. As a Prosthetic Technician at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, you will play a vital role in creating bespoke prosthetic devices that restore independence and confidence for patients.

Working within the Specialist Mobility Rehabilitation Centre (SMRC), this hands on role blends engineering expertise with patient centred care. You will fabricate, assemble, repair and maintain prosthetic limbs, working closely with prosthetists and a wider multidisciplinary team to deliver high quality, personalised solutions.

Main duties of the job

In this role, you will:

Manufacture, assemble, modify and repair a wide range of prosthetic limbs and components Interpret and follow technical instructions from prosthetists to deliver precise, tailored devices Use specialist tools and machinery safely, including lamination equipment and workshop machinery Work with advanced materials such as thermoplastics, resins, carbon fibre and glass fibre Ensure all devices meet safety, functional and cosmetic standards before patient use Maintain accurate records of materials, parts and work completed Keep a clean, safe and organised working environment in line with infection control and health and safety standards

Job description Job responsibilities

This is a technically demanding and rewarding position requiring a high level of practical skill, attention to detail, and commitment to quality.

You will work across workshop, machine and lamination rooms to produce bespoke prosthetic devices for patients with limb absence or deformity. The role involves using a wide variety of specialist tools and processes, including shaping, moulding and laminating materials to create precise, functional components.

Your key responsibilities will include:

Communicating effectively with prosthetists and technical colleagues to deliver accurate technical solutions Fabricating bespoke sockets and prosthetic components for a variety of clinical needs Assembling modular and conventional prostheses to high standards of safety and performance Maintaining and repairing prosthetic devices to ensure long term functionality Recording and managing data accurately using Trust systems Adhering to all health, safety and governance requirements at all times Maintaining a clean, organised and safe workshop environment Supporting personal development and contributing to team and service improvement You will take pride in producing high quality work, acting with professionalism and integrity, and contributing to a service that transforms patients lives through skilled technical care.

Person Specification

Knowledge & Experience Essential

Experience in manufacturing/engineering Experience in use of hand and machine tools Understanding and appreciation of the Health & Safety at work Act 1974 Experience of team working

Previous experience in prosthetics Previous experience as a technician

Qualifications & Education Essential

Educated to GCSE level in numeracy and literacy with willingness to undertake a BTEC qualification
