Applications are invited for a Locum Specialty Doctor in Rehabilitation Medicine to join the established team on the Hyper-Acute Rehabilitation Unit (ARTU) at UHNM. The post holder will provide daily medical care for inpatients on the UKROC accredited Level 1a specialist rehabilitation unit, working under Consultant supervision and alongside Advanced Nurse Practitioners, resident doctors, and specialist nursing staff. The patient cohort comprises adults with complex disabilities resulting from major traumatic injuries or neurological conditions including severe traumatic brain or spinal cord injury. Many patients have complex medical needs, including tracheostomy care and disorders of consciousness. Core responsibilities include daily acute medical care of inpatients, routine medical reviews, clerking planned admissions, managing acute complications and emergency presentations, and supporting the multidisciplinary team in delivering goal oriented specialist rehabilitation.The role offers strong professional support within the Rehabilitation Medicine team, with access to regular educational meetings, on-site training, and teaching opportunities. Close links with Keele University provide further scope for academic development and research involvement.
Rehabilitation Medicine forms an integral part of the major trauma pathway, with inpatient rehabilitation delivered across the 10-bedded ARTU at Royal Stoke and the 21 post-acute beds on Broadfield Ward at the Haywood.
Main duties of the job
o To provide comprehensive daily acute medical assessments and appropriate management of patients, including the prevention and treatment of complications or medical emergencies.o To support the nursing staff and lead in the management of the acutely deteriorating patiento To provide medical support to the multidisciplinary team and to manage patients from a medical perspective to ensure delivery of safe and high-quality services.o To interpret, diagnose and process pathology test results and establish appropriate management.o To ensure prescribing practice is based on current evidence and good practice and compliant with local policies and guidelines.o To ensure the confidentiality of patient related information and records and comply with Information Governance standards.o To provide comprehensive, accurate and well-written medical documents for discharge correspondence, individual funding applications and other medical reports as required.o To involve patients and carers in the medical and rehabilitation plans, as appropriate.o To contribute to a multidisciplinary approach managing the health needs of the patients using professional evidence-based practice.

Whilst the main duties of this post are ward-based, there is scope for specific individual commitments and particular areas of interest. The postholder will have opportunities to attend outpatient clinics or assess patients referred to the unit from other wards. It is anticipated that job plans will be finalised upon appointment through discussion amongst consultant colleagues, clinical leads and service managers.

Qualifications & Education Essential
MBBS or equivalent medical qualification Full General Medical Council Registration. Completed at least 4 years full time postgraduate training (or equivalent gained on part time basis) or have equivalent experience and competencies. Critically assesses own learning needs and ensures a personal development plan reflects both clinical practice and the relevant generic capabilities to lead and develop services.

MRCP Postgraduate diploma / MSc in Rehabilitation or related field Experience of undergraduate teaching and supervision
Experience Essential
At least 2 years UK experience in NHS internal medicine and relevant medical specialties Experience of attendance and contribution to MDT meetings Collaborates with multidisciplinary, and interprofessional teams to manage risks and issues across organisations and settings with respect for and recognition of the roles of other health professionals
