Job summary
Clinical Engineering (CE) provides services to ensure that the Trusts medical devices are operating effectively and safely with the minimum of downtime. Medical devices include all electrical, electronic, mechanical, and medical gas systems used to diagnose and treat patients.
The role is site based (at RPH), covering core service hours on a rota system and is responsible to the Head of Clinical Engineering.
Main duties of the job
*Preventative maintenance, servicing, repair, calibration and acceptance testing on a wide range of equipment within the electrical / electronic sphere
*Written/verbal communication for both simple and complex medical device related information in such a way as to ensure the stakeholders full understanding and comprehension, and to minimise any barrier(s) in understanding
*Support other team members when required with work that falls outside of own expertise and seek support and advice if needed
*Accurate data input into the CE department equipment management system
*Work to and maintain a good knowledge of appropriate legislation(s), policies and procedures and quality standards
*Adhere to health and safety regulations
*Participation in the Clinical Engineering On-Call rota is a requirement of the role. The post-holder must be available and contactable on a rota basis out of hours for urgent advice and repair if require of medical equipment.

Qualifications Essential
*B Eng or equivalent in appropriate subject

*Incorporated level Engineer or equivalent professional membership of relevant professional body *Registration as clinical technologist
Experience Essential
*Extensive practical experience in Medical engineering workshop practices and techniques *experience of medical equipment support in either the NHS, UK private sector or Overseas medical equipment support sector *Specialised knowledge of defibrillation, multi-parameter, infusion, cardiology and radiology products *Broad knowledge of medical device operation and management *Experience in applying workshop technology to patient critical equipment and techniques in healthcare *High level of understanding of patient and staff risks arising from equipment failure *Excellent verbal communication skills *Able to communicate complex information in a variety of operational environments *Able to deal with complex and unpredictable situations *Good negotiation skills *Able to prioritise, manage own work and that of others and to be able to work unsupervised *Able to exercise initiative when dealing with issues within own specialist area of competence *Has a positive approach to customer care *Ability to deal with all levels of staff *Demonstrate ability to organise, prioritise, communicate and work under pressure *Understanding of Risk Management *Health and safety knowledge and understanding *Understanding of audit processes *Able to use Excel, Word etc and use the ECRI AIMS medical equipment database *Able to concentrate when subject to frequent unpredictable working patterns *Able to deal with occasional distressing circumstances when working in clinical areas *Ability to innovate *A team player able to work well with others and demonstrate commitment to departmental objectives *Must not be colour blind *Must hold current driving licence *Flexible approach to introduction of change in working practices *Professional appearance and behaviour *Good previous attendance record
